well that's one reason certain groups were protesting like VS shows and stuff, but the protestors that got the NY stop cancelled and harrassed the people at the LA stop were environmentalists (hence the brandishing of chainsaws outside the VS in NYC. I was there.). they run Victoria's Dirty Secret. They say that VS is killing precious forests because they mail out a million+ catalogs each day and the average person on a mailing list receives 1 catalog every 2 weeks.

I think saving the environment is important, of course, but I don't agree with this particular groups methods... <_<

and of COURSE Christian I would bring a video camera and do what you asked in addition to my little speech. :p

Remember these are the same woman who ruined Gisele's night a while back in 2002. These woman need more to do than reck these girls lives. I mean have you seen www.whatisvictoriassecret.com it is disgusting and personally I think Victoria Secret should take action against them. If you do not like Victoria Secret do not shop there and do not look at the catalogs, why bitch? My grandmother is one of these woman she think you are the devils child if you model for Victoria Secret, but I told her and I would love to ask all these other women this ( because most of these women who hate VS watch the beauty pagents like Miss Usa and Miss Universe) I would say to them "Okay you don't like VS but when those girls are modeling they are selling a product, now when you watch the Miss USA pagents they are modeling bikini's to sell THEMSELVES. Which one do you think is worse?"

But again this is just strictly what I think.

I don't know some people are just unappreciative, first they want women to show off their bodies, now they are telling them to keep them covered, it's kind of redundant.

Perhaps it's just another aspect of the new puritanism (or some strange kind of anti-sex thing)

They are ridiculous they believe if they mess up the models or "Try" and ruin their name that people are just going to stop buying the lingerie, but what they don't realize is none of the models pay much attention to them. They are getting paid to model the lingerie because it's their job, of course I'm sure Adriana, and Gisele and the rest of them can get other jobs, but why should they sell themselves short because a group of fat immature women want to go out and protest a bunch of beautiful women for their jobs, it's stupid they need a life. Seriously. They protest everything from teens modeling in seventeen, to Miss. America right now it's to the point where none of the pageant people want to do auditions because those women are becoming violent and throwing things at the girls. Or so says my friend who tried out for Miss. USA a while back. I think they need to realize that they aren't going to be heard by being rude.

Actually that was not the same group. The women who interrupted Gisele's walk were from PETA who were protesting Gisele's modeling of mink furs

hence the signs "Gisele: Fur scum"

The feminist groups or the "concerned mothers" groups think that the VS shows and catalogs are promoting sex and lustful behavior among men and corrupting their children as well. I don't think they mean to target any specific model, but the company in general. They call the fashion shows porn and claim their children get confused by it, etc.

It's like after Janet Jackson's breast incident when parents said their children were traumatized by her breast and couldn't function normally.....

Here in Britain there was a collective hoot of derisive laughter at (some) Americans reaction to the Janet Jackson breast incident. And the French simply couldn't believe their eyes and ears! (Makes you wonder how all those breast fed children survived their "traumatc" childhoods!)

How should underwear be advertised so as not to offend these women? Say, put really homely looking women with average bodies in non provocative poses in bland settings with not a hint of sex to be found..? I think sales would lessen a bit..because lingerie is supposed to be..(gasp) sexy!

As long as I can't get VS to send me their swimwear catalogs I don't agree with their purpose either. Paper use hardly hurts forests. SUVs and acid rain does.

PETA seems like nutcases who would kill Gisele in order to save the lives of two racoons. The Janet protesters were overreacting prudes. The concerned mothers are the only ones I can give a little credit. If you want to protest the sexualisation and nuditisation of society the constant high profile and agressive marketing of sexy lingerie makes much more of a difference in changing standards than some gimmick at a tv show one January afternoon (except the protesters gave it so much publicity that they did make it important and ridiculed their own message).

That's just to say they have a point. Not that I agree that VS should stop giving me pictures of Brazilians in lingerie...

I don't think that the attacks on the Victoria's Secret corporation and its models by these so-called "concerned mothers" spring exclusively from a desire to protect children. What I see is a group of people with both low self esteem and high anxiety about sex. (The fact is that protecting children from sexual exploitation is one thing and keeping them in ignorance about sex, or pretending that it doesn't exist, is something very, very different.) The "concerned mothers" are fundamentally negative, guilty and ashamed about sex and they are inviting us share their attititudes. This is an invitation I politely decline. As my wife puts it: sex is one of God's most wonderful gifts to us (humanity). Besides which, we live in a free market economy and if people don't like a product they have every right not to buy it. But they have no right at all to try and prevent others from buying.

Anybody going to go meet Adriana on May 10th in New York City at the Victoria's Secret store for the launch of some new VS Fragrance? She's supposed to be making an appearance and possibly signing....

This was mentioned before the forums were cleared but it has completely slipped my mind and I can't look back so I'm going to ask again.

What's the deal with her parents? Like occupations, etc.

I think I remember but I don't want to say it and be wrong. :ninja:

Anyone have any way for me to get codecs? RealPlayer only plays some videos, not all of them. I remember installing a codec, but it only helped out a little.
