oxford25 Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Some pix from Ristorante La Fontelina where Leo and group ate today in Capri. It is the same exact restaurant from which we go pix /vid last year Unfortunately Leo's back was to the person Not going to post the whole Forbes article as it does have some spoilers , but is a good article about Once box office & Leo https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2019/08/12/box-office-quentin-tarantino-leonardo-dicaprio-brad-pitt-margot-robbie-once-upon-a-time-in-hollywood-charles-manson-sharon-tate-django-basterds/?fbclid=IwAR0e-8R Quote Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is (sadly) only the second wholly original flick to pass the $100 million mark this year, after Jordan Peele's Us ($175 million). With weekend-to-weekend drops comparable, in a good way, to Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds, there's a strong chance that the $90 million Sony release could end its domestic run with closer to $130 million than $120 million. Overseas is an open question, but it opened with $7.7 million in Russia last weekend, triple the $2.5 million debut (ten years ago) of Inglourious Basterds. This is more evidence that Leonardo DiCaprio is the last old-school movie star we've got. This is more evidence that Quentin Tarantino is a "butts in the seats" marquee director, especially when he's got big movie stars and/or razzle-dazzle in his corner. However, unlike (arguably) every other Tarantino film and most of DiCaprio's biggest hits, it's not an action film or rooted in the promise of excessive criminal melodrama (gangsters, heists, etc.) or violence. There are indeed are moments of fabricated "on the set of a TV" show action and violence during the film's 2.5-hour running time. No spoilers, but there is a brief sequence of extreme, if stylized, violence, that serves as the film's poetically ironic climax. But the vast majority of this R-rated, adult-skewing dramedy is just Leonardo DiCaprio (as a past-his-prime movie star-turned-TV character actor) and Brad Pitt (as his loyal stuntman/personal assistant) going about their lives. n a skewed way, the (thus far) strong box office for Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood is even more impressive than Inglorious Basterds ($120.5 million in 2009) and Django Unchained ($162 million in 2012) and one of the more impressive movies of the summer. Inflation aside, this newest Tarantino/DiCaprio film is playing about as well as many of their bigger hits despite a comparative lack of action, violence and genre elements. That they (along with Pitt and Robbie) got audiences to show up (and keep showing up) for what is essentially an old-school drama is a huge validation of their commercial pull. Quote
oxford25 Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Kat Tks for letting us know your thoughts on Once I've now seen it 2X, and first time I would say I liked it , 2nd time I would say I like it a lot I thought all did a great job, as always far too early to know who will or won't be in award contention, but I'm hoping both Leo and Brad get nods, as well as, the film, Tarantino, costumes, sets , music, cinematographer Definitely agree with your take on Leo's Rick Dalton = he's endearing and hilarious 👍 Jade So glad your long wait for Once will soon be over And , Barbie, know you are counting down the days to next week ! That was too cute, and Jade for that tidbit. When I watched the first time, I noticed that scene, but I said, ah, it’s a red herring, lol. I was wrong. Quote

Yeah, it's not worth the reading. But still it's a little heartbreaking how hateful people can be. I mean why? What has Leo ever done to deserve such horrible comments? I will never understand why people just can't move on when they're so disgusted by him. It's not like you have to watch those pictures or follow his life or watching his movies. It's like the anonymity is making them loose all humanity and (self-)respect That's what I called ugly. Quote

That unfortunately comes with the territory of fame. So true, and it’s sad really. It’s like if a person doesn’t like him, then don’t pay attention to what he’s doing. He’s living his life Quote
oxford25 Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 Another pix of Leo with lucky fan when he was in Rome Quote
