I Can not wait to get back playing tournments!

Hello there,

I have been training in Florida the last few weeks and really working hard on getting the strength back in my arm. It's really amazing how you can do all the exercises and rehab in the world but nothing substitutes the time you spent on court running and hitting hundreds of balls. The biggest lesson I have learned throughout this whole process is that it takes so much patience to get back to where you were physically. You are never really going to forget 'how' to hit a tennis ball but what you do forget is how much work and repitition you must put into every single day in order to get back to where you were. And the only way to get back into good shape is by playing tennis. Unfortunately just because the doctor fixes the problem and gives you the green light to practice doesn't mean that you can just go out there playing tournaments. Yesterday I played my first few points with serves in about 6 months which was pretty exciting! Right now I'm aiming for Palm Springs, or Miami, depending on how things shape up. I cannot wait to get back to playing tournaments!

I am finally becoming a steady cook, which doesn't mean much because apparently you only become a good cook when you're a grandmother. Last week I thought I had hit jackpot when I found this super easy recipe for a jelly marmalade. Small problem was that I bought everything I needed except some 'apple pectin powder" which simply didn't exist in any grocery store within a 30 mile radius in Sarasota (they forgot to mention that its almost impossible to find one of the ingredients). I thought I had a perfect substitution but about 3 hours later found out that my 'perfect substitution' was a fake and my marmalade never turned into jelly. Real bummer to say the least.

I had a shoot for SE last weekend and my whole team of make up, hair, stylist etc was on hand for a really fun weekend. Only one studio exists in Sarasota and with every shoot I do there, more and more costume outfits fill the drawers. I'm afraid to think of what is being shot in there but our group was able to entertain ourselves and come up with some silly outfits ( pictures provided in the photo blog...actually those glasses I'm wearing belong to me and not the closet. They're just clear glass and very dorky but I love them).

I have had some wonderful bonding time with Dolce...although I don't understand their language, I can probably guarantee he's saying when is she going away.

I never thought I would say this about Sarasota but it is really coming around, with great little boutique restaurants and art galleries. I don't know how many of you live in Sarasota but you should definitely visit Mosaic...its Moroccan/French with great cous cous! Highly recommend it!

How good was the movie Slumdog Millionaire! I saw it over Thanksgiving and I thought it was brilliant...so happy its getting all the nominations it deserves. And the soundtrack is great!

That's all for now! xx

Maria will be making her comeback from her shoulder injury at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells which begins on March 11th. :ddr: :ddr:   Maria will not compete in the singles competition, but will compete in the doubles tournament with Elena Vesnina.  Maria has never played with Vesnina before and this is Maria's 1st doubles tournament in nearly 4 years.

"I am excited to be playing competitive tennis again," said Maria. "The healing process takes time, and requires things to move more slowly than I would like, but I am taking things one step at a time. I look forward to playing at the BNP Paribas Open, it is definitely one of my favorite tournaments in the world."

"We are very glad that Maria will be competing at the BNP Paribas Open," said tournament director Steve Simon. "It is great to see her healthy and back on the court.  The game has missed her and we wish her the best of luck and hope she has a great tournament."

Maria has pulled out from the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami :( as she continues to rehabilitate her right shoulder. She was preparing to play in this year's tournament by playing doubles at Indian Wells.

"It felt great to be back on tour last week even if it was just playing doubles," said Maria "I am still not ready to play 7 consecutive matches and will have to withdraw from the Sony Ericsson Open which is one of my favorite tournaments of the year"

Maria is not allowing the withdrawal to keep her from her fans. Although she will not be competing for this year's title, she will travel to the Sony Ericsson Open to sign autographs for fans on Thursday, March 26
