A Cherished Childhood

And thank you for welcoming me to the World of Models family. I guess I'll start off with the traditional introduction by introducing myself. My name is Geoff Burns. My father, who is a smooth talking Canadian, and my mother, who is from the North woods of Wisconsin, raised me in Phoenix, Arizona. I'm guessing on a hot Arizona night my Dad used his natural charm on my mother and won her over. After a few "I do's" they wed, bought a house together in Phoenix, and started their family. I was one of three children. I have an older brother and a younger sister. We were fortunate to have a very cherished childhood. I remember playing cowboys and Indians, building forts, and playing sports. The only worries I ever had were deciding what flavor pop tart I was going to consume after school

The modeling career: How it all started

This is somewhat of a funny story. I remember being on the field for football practice. Like we did every day, we were doing the same mundane tackling drills. To take our minds of the drills my roommate and I, currently still one of my best friends, would always ramble about girls, classes, how much this sucks playing football in negative degree weather. Etc well, this one particular conversation he asked if I had ever given modeling a try. I responded with a definite 'NO' I didn't think I had the look, and I knew for sure I didn't have the confidence. I was painfully shy. Anyways, he had asked if he could take some pictures of me to send them to a friend of his that was doing an internship for Seventeen Magazine.

After a few awkward snapshots of me attempting to model, he sent the pictures off to his friend. It was about a month later that I got a phone call from a foreign looking number. I answered, and it was one of the head editors of Seventeen Magazine. She had told me that her team wanted me in L.A. to take part in their upcoming issue of the "Seventeen sexiest guys in America under 21." Naturally, I cried, and said, "YES!" Once I arrived at the studio in L.A. I was a scared little puppy. I was petrified to be in front of the camera. Somehow the photographer came up with some decent shots. A month later I did the Abercrombie & Fitch campaign with Bruce Weber. A few weeks after that I was chosen out of 45,000 other models to represent the U.S. at a GUESS promotional event in Switzerland. After a stream off immediate success I decided to get an agent. It was then that I signed with Mr. David Love at Chosen Models. In such a short time I went from shy little schoolboy, to a confident, and successful model. It was my chance to see the world, to experience different cultures and worldviews, to come out of my shell. It is these aspects that have been the greatest part of modeling. Because of modeling, I had a new appreciation for life, a purpose, and a passion.

"Remember you're getting paid lots of money to look good! Have fun with it!"

When working with a photographer I love establishing a connection between the two of us. Each photographer is different, so getting on the same page when it comes to the specific emotion, character, or feeling that needs to be depicted is vital. The only preparation I feel necessary is to show up in shape, and ready to take direction. You never want to psych yourself out by over-thinking the job. Just jump into it and have fun. Remember you€™re getting paid lots of money to look good! Have fun with it!

The runway experiences: I don't have too much experience with Runway. I have done it in the past, but it's definitely not my forte. When it comes to the backstage, there is usually a lot of nakedness, which can at times be awkward. Every ones trying to hurry up and change into their next outfit. I just hope it's not cold.

A fashionista? There are times when I love to dress up, look good, go out and paint the town red, but for the most part I'm a T-shirt and Jeans guy. I love being comfortable.

Imagine you a famous model in the middle of a hugeee crowd of fans. How you´d handle it? I know exactly what I would do. I would blush like a prepubescent schoolboy who just experienced his first kiss! I really don't like being noticed or praised for what I've done. I'm a very personal guy, always have been, always will be

Human Rights, Freedom of Speech, Wars and Sexual Behavior: Oh politics, the touchy subject. I dislike ideologies in all forms: liberal, conservative, and libertarian, whatever. Right at the moment, I think that the liberal/conservative divide is the single most harmful thing about American politics and even the world. Ideologies are an excuse for people to avoid thinking. Once people adopt a political philosophy that has all of the answers, they stop thinking and start rationalizing. I find it difficult to take anybody's opinions seriously when it is clear that they started with the answers, and then worked backward to select facts that would support their views, and ignore facts that don't. Most people declaiming their opinions succeed primarily in convincing me that they are too ignorant to understand any viewpoint other than their own. If there's one single point, which is key to my political beliefs, it is an emphatic belief in free speech. Freedom of speech (and writing, and art) is critical to the free exchange of ideas, and any society that does not allow the free exchange of ideas will slide into totalitarianism. It is this freedom that allows our society to progress.

Fame, Success and Show biz: Like many occupations, there are many pros and cons to show business. Let´s start with the pros. There is no job like it in the world. One can make a living having fun, playing dress up, and acting out different characters. At times, it's like being a kid again. The job is always different too. One week you might be in Santorini, Greece shooting on the white sands, and the next you're in Key West, working one-hour days, and sipping on mojitos for the rest of the time. It can be very luxurious. There are definitely some cons too. I find that the audition and casting process can be a little mundane and frustrating at points. Also, work is not always consistent, which makes you wonder where your income will be coming from next.

On success. I find self-image determines the boundaries in your life. It affects your level of health, wealth, and the quality of your personal relationships. The best way to prepare for a successful life is to start with a positive self-image. I Begin the process by having unconditional love for myself. Not in an egotistical sense, but of self- encouragement. I have learned greatly from my mistakes and will continue to make many more, but I always accept my core self. Love and accept yourself, whoever you are, and you will create a psychologically healthy foundation from which to build a successful life upon. I find this famous quote to be right on point. "Where there is a will, there is a way."

On fame. I really don't have much to say about this topic, since I haven't experienced much of it. Personally, I'd like to keep it that way. I think it would be a tough to balance. As you can see in the tabloids, some people can't handle it. The result of fame can ruin lives and reputations. I also believe there are those who can handle fame and use it for the better. With fame one can voice his or her opinion, sparking a movement in a positive direction. It's an objective matter, but I'm rooting for those familiar with the latter explanation.

Love X Dating: I'm a one-girl type of guy

Sports: Absolutely love them. The favorites include football and basketball

His way to attract someone: Just be myself.

Having fun: Just being active. I love playing sports, working out, playing with my dog. Hanging out with friends. I think great joy can be found in relationships whether it is family or friends

The craziest (nastiest?) thing he´s ever done in the summer: I'd say the craziest thing was taking part in a rather large bar fight in Paris. I came out alive

Fav body part and why: My skin tone. I can get rather dark thanks to my Native American forefathers. I think it's a good combo with light eyes.

Favorite singer and music on IPOD: Right now I'd have to say the 'Muse'. Their instrumentals are incredible, and though provoking. I mostly have instrumental music and soundtracks on my Ipod. I love the inspiration and own lyrical creativity my mind pairs with the instruments

Favorite undies for his daily acitivities and for those coool sexy moments (lol): I love my Calvins! Especially the boxer briefs

An Unforgettable moment: Seeing myself on massive billboards in Chicago, New York, Las Vegas, and Hollywood. A little surreal.

The Projects

I just finished the Estee lauder "Beautiful Fragrance" campaign. Right now you can see me in an international commercial for it. Also, I had a co-star appearance on the FOX TV show "Dollhouse." I played the medical tech. Hopefully more TV/Film stuff to come in the near future!

Motto: Enjoy each day as if it was your last.

Favorite quote: "Every man dies, not every man really lives." William Wallace
