Vestalka Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Premiere Party For Paramount Network's 'Yellowstone' Season 2 May 30, 2019 in Los Angeles Quote
Jade Bahr Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Not outstanding but also still better than boring 😄 @Lilja K Kevin Costner's ‘Horizon' Earns Mixed Reviews [Cannes] Kevin Costner premiered the first of his four ‘Horizon’ movies tonight in Cannes. Despite a 7-minute standing ovation, not all critics are being kind to his 3-hour western. It was to be expected. Westerns aren’t necessarily “hip” these days. Pans are coming in from THR, Screen Daily, The Guardian, and The Playlist. Whereas, positive reviews are coming via The Wrap, The Telegraph, and Total Film. Quote
Jade Bahr Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Maybe the movie treatment wasn't a good idea afterall. I will give it a shot nevertheless. The Daily Beast Calls ‘Horizon' A “Misogynistic, Racist, Retrograde Mess" I went into this morning’s ‘Horizon’ screening rooting for Kevin Costner who shelled out $38 million of his own money to make these films. I wanted to like it, I really did. What I got instead was an utterly meandering and dull experience. The film plays like a 3-hour set-up for the second film. It’s all play and no action. I’m starting to think that this one should have just been a mini-series. There are so many characters, locales and storylines that it would have greatly benefitted from the breathing room of episodic TV. With that said, The Daily Beast’s Esther Zuckerman disliked ‘Horizon’ for another set of reasons. The headline for her review states, “Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon’ Review: A Misogynistic, Racist Mess.” Here’s an excerpt: Everything about Horizon is retrograde. Men are noble heroes (like Hayes Ellison, the drifter played by Costner) or brutes who toss around the women, themselves either saintly like Miller or frivolous and nagging. Or, maybe, it’s just an accurate recreation of America’s past history? Isn’t Zuckerman describing what happens in practically every classic western? It comes with the genre. The film takes place in 1861, not 2024. Quote
Jade Bahr Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 At least the audience seem to like it @Lilja K Quote
Jade Bahr Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 At least the one who watched it. ‘Horizon' Grosses Weak $800K in Previews [Updated] Poor Kevin. Kevin Costner is Paying All Marketing Costs on ‘Horizon' It's just not the right time for movies like this in cinema anymore. Quote

Yes, it's not pleasant to look at, but portraying the past through the prism of modern values will not fix it. Moreover, it's problematic, because in some way it diminishes the difficulties of women of those times. Quote

Jade Bahr Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I really wonder where he'll get the money for part 3 and 4 🤔 @Lilja K Kevin Costner's ‘Horizon' to Hit VOD Next Week We all saw this coming. Kevin Costner’s 3-hour Western, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One” will be available to watch at home as it is listed for VOD release on July 16. That’s only 19 days after its initial theatrical launch. It’s worth noting that the most recurrent complaint when it comes to this film is that it felt more like a set-up, an introduction, for the next chapter which is set for theatrical release in August. This quick home release could very well be a way for Warner Bros to try to build an audience to get them interested in the upcoming entry. The critical reception for ‘Horizon’ hasn’t been good. However, audience scores have been a tad more generous, with a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.1/10 on IMDb. I gather it’s a little too late for the second chapter to be sent straight to Max, so this $110M gamble will continue on for Costner who is still very much planning on shooting Chapters 3 & 4 this fall in Utah. Jade Bahr Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Not a surprising decision. Kevin Costner's ‘Horizon' Pulled From August Release Schedule Quote
Jade Bahr Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 I swear this whole drama behind those movies seems much more entertaining than the movies itself to me 😅 @Lilja K @Cult Icon Kevin Costner Rejected Amazon/MGM Offer to Acquire ‘Horizon' Yesterday’s news that Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga: Chapter 2” had its August release date delayed indefinitely didn’t come as much of a surprise. The real question everyone seems to be asking now is, what’s next? Will it ever see theaters? How about ‘Horizon 3,’ which has already shot nine days’ worth of footage and is set to restart production in August — will Costner be able to finish it? Puck’s Matt Belloni is reporting that before Warner Bros. and Costner decided to delay Chapter 2’s Aug. 16 release, Amazon/MGM Studios inquired about taking the film off Warners’ plate for streaming. Talks were had, but the Amazon offer “was just too low to seriously consider”, and Costner/WB instead pulled the plug on theaters. Streaming is how I envisioned Horizon’s future to be. Maybe it won’t be with Amazon, but Netflix or even Apple could potentially pick it up and turn it into some kind of 4-movie event. How about Paramount+ which is where Costner’s career was rejuvenated with “Yellowstone” — that would be a fitting home for ‘Horizon.’ Costner surely stands to lose money in the process, but at least his films would get made and seen by a wider audience. Hell, maybe even Warners’ streaming service Max could just premiere the next three chapters. It’s really sad to say, but Costner’s hopes to turn ‘Horizon’ into a theatrical movie event have failed. I just can’t image all four of these films hitting theaters. There is a chance that they get made, Costner’s mysterious backers seem to be helping out a lot, but forget about theaters for chapters 3 and 4. Streaming is the best and, possibly, only option to turn this franchise into a viable endeavor for all parties involved. Quote
Jade Bahr Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Netflix Has Made an Offer to Acquire Kevin Costner's ‘Horizon' So, this is what I’ve heard. After Amazon failed in nabbing Kevin Costner’s “Horizon,” Netflix had now also made and offer to acquire the film. The streaming giant would partially help in funding chapters 3 and 4, but most of the budget would still be financed by outside parties. The plan would be to release each chapter, months apart, on Netflix, with potential plans to eventually, if Costner agrees, turn it into an episodic mini-series. No word yet on whether Costner is interested, but that’s the offer as it stands. No details on how much Netflix has coined up for Costner in the deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if Costner refused the offer due to two reasons: 1) The streamer very likely didn’t put enough money on the table to cover Costner’s costs and 1) they have no interest in releasing these movies in theaters. It’s no secret that Netflix has been trying to get their own version of “Yellowstone” going. Of course, “Horizon” isn’t the answer, but it would definitely bring some of that audience to the platform. Costner has already partnered with Netflix on their original movie “The Highwaymen.” In recent years, he’s also had quite a few of his older movies top the Netflix charts, including “Let Him Go,” “Draft Day” and “Mr. Brooks.” Quote

From what I've heard it's more like the first act of multiple storylines. I will probably watch it when much more of it is released. I like how this project is a legit passion project and not something that is simply pumped out for money. Quote

Part 1 have to bring the money in so the other parts can be continued at all. But no one is watching part 1 because "it's just the beginning of a bigger story" so people decided to wait. Now parts 3 and 4 are having trouble ever getting made and isn't it ironic that they could only be saved by a streaming service that Costner actually avoided? lol People seem to forget that movies for cinema aren't working like streaming services.
