dreamss Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 ^This is all kinds of true. And all her projects are major. And everyone knows her name. She's obviously filthy rich and she's just 20.I don't even get the hype with high fashion. Those girls are walking their butts off and starving themselves and at the end of the day, they pay them next to nothing. Quote
bummy123 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I dont necessarily agree with this but I think folks feel that high fashion work is more respected. Where as the work that Kate does is mainly for men with a box of tissues next to them. And there is nothing wrong with that at all, make your money.I do get a little annoyed when I hear people call her a Supermodel though. IMO, a Supermodel is someone who fits every category of modelling and is respected in each avenue ( Gisele and Karolina Kurkova are probably the most recent examples ). Quote

I also would just prefer it if they just called her a model for now. Quote

IMO, a Supermodel is someone who fits every category of modelling and is respected in each avenue ( Gisele and Karolina Kurkova are probably the most recent examples ). In that case I think they should eliminate the term "Supermodel" all together then because beauty is in the eye of the beholder and even though models like Gisele and Karolina are beautiful, personally I can only see them in the stereotypical high fashion mold because I just can't buy them in the same type of work that Kate is getting. I just don't personally find them sexy just like a lot of people don't see Kate as high fashion material even though I personally think Kate can pull off the high fashion look depending on what they have her wear, same as with any model really because there have been some models I have seen who are normally gorgeous in normal clothes or certain gowns, but then you stick them in the wrong gown/outfit and they look like a train wreck. I think the term "Supermodel" should be more about your star power more than anything no matter what type of modeling you are known for. If you are a household name where everyone and their mothers know who you are, then you should be able to be called a supermodel. That is just how I feel though. Quote
Ness Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Man I love these photos. She has the best natural breasts I've ever seen. Quote
saviorofcamelot Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Man I love these photos. She has the best natural breasts I've ever seen. There are A LOT of models out there with large all natural boobs. Kate's are nice but you make it sound like all the other girls have fake boobs. I'm pretty sure Emily Ratajkowski has all natural boobs too. They look fake because they don't slap her in the face when she walks but I'm 90% certain they are all natural too. Quote

I'd agree with that IF people became household names without getting media assistance. The only reason anyone knows who 'Kate Upton" is is because she made the cover of the 2012 SI Swim and because the media keeps shoving her down everyone's throat. Instead of letting everyone make a decision on their own they are literally shoving her down our throats... I think a supermodel should be someone that actually models fashion in multiple countries. Some of the current "supermodels" have walked down runways in several different countries and I think that earns them the right to be called a supermodel. Many of those models have also done magazine spreads for magazines in other countries too... Kate shot a video for Love Magazine and it shows her rubbing her boobs. I've seen a lot of fashion videos that have nudity and a lot of fashion photoshoots that involve nudity but Kate is the first "model" that I have ever seen rub her boobs seductively like a pornstar. FYI: I'm not bashing Kate, simply making a few observations about "supermodels" since it was mentioned. There is a certain level of maturity needed to land major fashion contracts and you don't normally see 19/20 year old girls getting those contracts because they just don't have the fame for them. Kate Upton is not popular enough to get world-wide coverage. She's popular in America right now but if you go to Japan or China you won't see her mentioned. True supermodels are known in every country in the world. Quote
dreamss Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Well I don't know if this discussion can be held here (or the supermodel thread) but here goes:Psylocke I so agree with your notion that the term "supermodel" should be more about star power. Kate is obviously famous in America, I don't know about other parts of the world but I'm sure people in other countries might come across her name.I would call Karolina a supermodel because she successful in both the HF and commercial department. But I wouldn't scream about it because she's not that famous. Gisele on the other hand is obviously a supermodel. She's famous enough and her portfolio is untouchable. Even though some people might scratch there heads about Adriana, there is no denying she's one of the most famous models of recent times. I would even say she is even more known than Gisele (outside the fashion world of course) She's done several HF projects and is a Queen in commercial modeling.Kate is still so young, she has years to experience all the avenues modeling can offer and she's not showing any signs of slowing down. IF You google her name, her search results is just off the hook. I strongly believe that popularity/fame should have a lot with one being called a supermodel. But I also believe that one has to work in both the commercial and HF field to earn the title. Kate doesn't even need to be getting a different vogue cover every month or walk on the runway for every designer in town or bag a blue-chip campaign every season. All she needs is just branch out to HF a little bit to be considered a supermodel, IMO. Quote

Those are some great examples and I agree that even though I truly believe mostly in star power, Kate is still young both in age and the modeling world and still has to prove that she has the staying power. Hopefully she does get that chance to branch out into HF to prove that she can be versatile as well, but if she doesn't get that chance and still has the star power years later, it wouldn't disqualify her from the title in my book. She has done runway in both America and Mexico so far. Let's hope that leads to bigger and better things all over the world. (we really need a finger crossing emoticon ) Quote

ILUVAdrianaLima Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I'd agree with that IF people became household names without getting media assistance. Wait a minute....every model who has achieved 'SUPERMODEL' status needed media assistance to get there in the first place - be it magazine, TV, internet, or etc. - without it I don't see anyone ever becoming a 'household' name to begin with. So by default in a way, media assistance is almost a prerequisite into achieving supermodel stardom. The only reason anyone knows who 'Kate Upton" is is because she made the cover of the 2012 SI Swim and because the media keeps shoving her down everyone's throat. Instead of letting everyone make a decision on their own they are literally shoving her down our throats... Okay, I shall admit one detail here on Kate that almost anyone can agree on. There's is no doubt SI helped propel her name across the American landscape (media assistance...hmmm this is how you know what starts people) and abroad. But how in the hell is she being shoved down our throats ?!? If anyone or thing, it's those dam Kardashian's that are being shoved down our throats. Kate is simply enjoying her success and the stardom that predictable comes with getting the coveted SI cover. There was no HUGE media bliss on her compared to other celeb crap that is mentioned 24/7 - and NO...I wont say the K word again, simply exacerbates that particular problem. LOL, and ALMOST everyone has made their decisions on Kate. Once again, no one is shoving anything down anyone in regards to Kate. What's surprising here is you seem to have some sort of ambiguous disdain over this women yet you keep visiting her topic...why? I think a supermodel should be someone that actually models fashion in multiple countries. Some of the current "supermodels" have walked down runways in several different countries and I think that earns them the right to be called a supermodel. Many of those models have also done magazine spreads for magazines in other countries too... Hmmm, okay, once again I shall give you credit on one area on the above statement. Supermodels do work the world stage when it comes to modeling. But that alone doesn't necessarily give you the coveted title of Supermodel. It's SO much more then just that amigo. Kate shot a video for Love Magazine and it shows her rubbing her boobs. I've seen a lot of fashion videos that have nudity and a lot of fashion photoshoots that involve nudity but Kate is the first "model" that I have ever seen rub her boobs seductively like a pornstar. Really....the pornstar bit again, WTF! Have you honestly seen 'MANY' fashion videos that have nudity in them? Trust me, when Kate RUBBED her boobs, it was just part of the SHOOT and nothing to do with being seductive like a pornstar. My gosh, just check out Emily Ratajkowski video photoshoots. They are in MAGNITUDES more seductive then Kate's yet I don't find her pornstar-ish at all. FYI: I'm not bashing Kate, simply making a few observations about "supermodels" since it was mentioned.
