One of the things the VS web site has *finally* done is credit the model and displayed their size when selling a product. So, if you see a model, mouse over their photo and it will say, for instance, "Frankie is 5'8" and wears 34C or Small". Should help both us wondering "who is she?" and those of us actually shopping for product and wondering if they will fit on ourselves or our significant others.

Victoria’s Secret wants to get back on the runway.

The lingerie brand told analysts Monday that it is planning to one day bring back its iconic fashion show — but in a “culturally relevant” way.

After nearly 20 years running, the annual fashion show where Victoria’s Secret’s Angels flaunted bedazzled bras and lacy underwear was canned. The last-ever show, televised in December of 2018, suffered the worst ratings in its broadcast history.

But now, as Victoria’s Secret is rewriting its playbook. Its Angels have been replaced with brand ambassadors who represent all body types and ages. Its stores are getting refreshed with plus-size mannequins and lighter-colored fixtures. The company is also planning to test a handful of off-mall locations.

 

“We have historically had a very significant amount of our marketing spend that was around the fashion show, and we saved that money in the last two years,” Victoria’s Secret CEO Martin Waters said during a virtual presentation. “Our intent is to get back into the fashion show business.”

He cautioned, however, “we’re not in a hurry to announce when that will be or how that will be ... but we will redefine it in a way that’s culturally relevant in the coming years.”

Separately, Waters hinted Monday that the company will invest in creating a digital entertainment platform for women to celebrate their bodies.

“It’s all about digital and social,” he said.

I hate that comment "it's all about digital and social". why can't it be personal and about fashion? I don't want to follow these goofy ass cultural ambassador ladies on the VS IG. I want to go into a store, find clothes I like, try them on and buy them. I don't give a flying fuck about these random women, I want good models to model the clothes instead. Maybe I'm just too old? So glad I didn't grow up inundated by the social media cultural influencer bullshit. I appreciate what it can achieve, but some people and companies take it too far and it becomes all they are about. Sounds like VS is heading that way, if they aren't already. 

 

I bet their clothes are going to suck even worse. They've been going down hill in the last few years anyway, I have no interest in the random ladies on their IG, I miss the VSFS....I just don't even think about them anymore. They alienated their longtime group of customers. Oh well, I'll go buy somewhere else.

Even for a guy who has some fashion knowledge, I still don't quite get why VS landed in the state it is today.

The video provided some insights on how they failed to capture key trends and subsequently fall into cancel culture.

 

The Angels were all remarkable and upright in the sense, they were good role models and represented the company well.

I don't recall anyone of the Angels being in the spotlight for bad press except for Stella Maxwell - ahem Miley & Kristen.

That PDA was way too wild.

It's probably because the VS aesthetic was perceived by the current environment as being too aligned to "traditional" male uberfantasy and being anti-feminist/too objectifying of women as sexual objects?   80s/90s Supermodels  as angels, in various sexy halloween outfits, etc.  There is also an issue of female jealously/resentment going on with the models promoting "unrealistic" body standards for the non-gifted majority to live up to.  Look at Sports Illustrated, which moved towards contemporary obesessions (populism and trying to "diversify" beauty standards) before VS..

I reminisce old times walking past the stores, looking at the iconic images of angels by the windows.

The line is definitely a success from sales figures.

From a male perspective, I don't find it interesting at all.

Surely, diversity is respected but nothing memorable especially when the edits only show computed seconds of each walk.

VS's fire is fading, but soon tiny flames will dance across the darkness. Maybe Etam live show will be one of these flames. They have Constance and she already has an angel's spirit.

They also are doing a collaboration with Hailey Bieber (nee Baldwin) so seems like they're leaning away from models and leaning in with more social media/famous people types.
