Stamoholic Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Hello I've not made a poll in quite awhile, and at the beginning of a new decade I thought it would be fun to have a retrospective What has been the best decade in modelling? In this poll you are being asked to considered the quality of the photoshoots, the fashion of the editorials, the facial appearance, body shape and appeal of the models, etc. in order to determine what decade you feel was the greatest The pictures provided might not be very comprehensive, but you can do your own research\ use your own knowledge. I have created the category " Late 00s - Early 10s" because I feel the look in models and fashion right now is different from the 00s, but it seems a little premature to create a 10s catagory considering the fact the decade only started 18 days ago Hope that's okay with everyone! xx PICTURE SAMPLES 50s /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064780-3725_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300068" alt="post-26767-0-1446064780-3725_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="132.35"> /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064782-23295_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300072" alt="post-26767-0-1446064782-23295_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="143.67"> /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064782-26676_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300079" alt="post-26767-0-1446064782-26676_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="131.94"> Models: Dorian Leigh; Unknown; Betty Brosmer; Betty Paige; Marilyn Monroe; Marilyn Hanold; Unkown; Eve Mayer Fashion factors in the 50s: Coke-bottle figures, sensuality, tailored clothing, curled hair, 'pin-up' photoshoots 60s /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064782-39064_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300093" alt="post-26767-0-1446064782-39064_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="133.4"> /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064782-5439_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300118" alt="post-26767-0-1446064782-5439_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="137.58"> Models: Twiggy; Jean Shrimpton; Jean Shrimpton and Patti Boyd; Celia Hammond; Patti Boyd; Veruschka; Twiggy; Penelope Tree Fashion factors in the 60s: Thin, boyish figures and 1920s inspired shot hair for the sexual revolution, thick eyelashes, Jackie O, pale lipstick, dawn of the mini skirt\dress 70s /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064782-89966_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300144" alt="post-26767-0-1446064782-89966_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="121.25"> /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064783-13053_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300162" alt="post-26767-0-1446064783-13053_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="142.7"> Models: Dayle Haddon; Cheryl Tiegs; Bitten Knudsen; Christie Brinkley; Janice Dickinson; Kim Alexis; Patti Hansen; Gia Carangi Fashion factors in the 70s: Bell shape with flared jeans and tight tops, disco beauty, sports wear, exoticsm vs the American Girl look, Farrah Fawcett 80s /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064783-20898_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300168" alt="post-26767-0-1446064783-20898_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="68.67"> Models: Renee Simonsen; Carol Alt; Christine Bolster; Linda Evangelista; Kathy Ireland; Cindy Crawford; Stephanie Seymour; Paulina Poreskova Fashion factors in the 80s: Scavullo, contrast colours, "hardbody" look, thick eyebrows and highly styled thick hair, loose tops with tight jeans ( reverse of the 70s look) 90s /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064783-63447_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300173" alt="post-26767-0-1446064783-63447_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="132.93"> /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064783-642_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300174" alt="post-26767-0-1446064783-642_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="136.29"> Models: Cindy Crawford; Eva Herzigova; Naomi Campbell; Angie Everhart; Claudia Schiffer; Christy Turlington; Niki Taylor; Kate Moss Fashion factors in the 90s: Age of the Supermodels, amazonian look, grunge, dramatic side partings, high glamour vs the waif look and heroin chic 00s /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1446064783-87874_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3300185" alt="post-26767-0-1446064783-87874_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="67.14"> Models: Karolina Kurkova; Heidi Klum; Gisele Bundchen; Ana Beatriz Barros; Lily Cole; Vlada Roslyakova; Gemma Ward; Jessica Stam Fashion factors in the 00s: Extreme skinniness, nostalgia fashion ( the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, -- what wasn't redone?), straight hair, skinny jeans, celebrity driven culture Late 00s - early 10s /monthly_01_2010/post-26767-0-1593895957-56085_thumb.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="_107_L__gende_d_automne_byGregKadel_tfs__userN__melange6.jpg"> Models: Anna Maria Jagodzinska; Lara Stone; Natasha Poly; Heidi Klum; Adriana Lima; Emily Didonato; Abbey Lee; Eniko Mihalik Fashion factors so far of late 00s-10s: Complete celebrity domination, fashion blogs, sex, perfect beauty and photoshopping, high contrast colours Enjoy voting and discussing! Stamoholic Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 I voted for the 80s.It had some of my fav girls from the 70s and some of my favs from the 90s, plus the make-up and photoshoot styling was awesome! The body shape was healthy with the curvy and toned " hardbody" look in vogue, and interesting style statements prevailed ( crazy hair, piercing eyes, thick eyebrows, block colours, etc.). I just love it. Quote
Clauds Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 00's ... I wasn't alive the other decades so i won't vote for the unknow Quote

Please say you were alive in the 90s... don't make me feel that being alive in the 90s is old Thanks for voting! Quote

Let's say my brain wasn't alive at that time hahahaha Quote
Stamoholic Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 ^ Oh, thank god. I'm only just older than you Funny -- I remember the 90s very strongly. I do have a crazy good memory though. Since I was four I've known all the words to " Come As You Are" The 90s seem to be the clear fav so far. Not suprising Quote
michelabella Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 The 90's forever also like the 80's/00's mainly for christie brinkley & gisele Quote
Qball Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 1990's, no contest.But what's with this "Late 00s - Early 10s" option? Come on, a decade is a decade... Quote
Stamoholic Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 ^ I answered that question in my intro. I feel the late 00s were very different to the early 00s and are in the process of becoming the early 10s ( as is the case with most decades). So, in order to give people the choice of saying " I think NOW is the best period", I added that catagory. I didn't want to call it the 10s because the 10s has only just started! Hope that answers your q! xx Quote
frenchkiki Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Angie Everhart The girl on the pix is not Angie Quote
Stamoholic Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 ^ Who is it? I got it from an Angie website, but it could be wrong. xxx Quote
frenchkiki Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 ^ Who is it? I got it from an Angie website, but it could be wrong. xxx I don't remember her name sorry (but she has a thread here i think) but this is 100% sure is not Angie Best decade by the way : the 90's. The girls were naturally beautiful. When you are meeting the so call "most beautiful girls in the world" now, you are like and  Because the differences between what's in the mag and the reality is huge like the Grand canyon! Oh and was 10 in 1984 when i've started to collect on models (Roberta Chirko was my first American crush) so i kind of like the 80's even the style at that time was :x Quote
CrazyGEN Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 ^ But these days you can make anyone look attractive thanks to airbrushing. You didn't have that in the 90s. Quote
frenchkiki Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 yes and it's a non-sense. They were using airbrushing a lot in the 90's but the girls were beautiful in real no matter if they removed a pimple or a mole, if they smoothed a skin or highlight the hair color, at the end the girl remain the same when u see her in real (even more beautiful sometimes) Today they change everything. Nose, legs, teeth, skin tone, shape of the face, color of the eyes & hair (oh L'Oreal! oh Maybeline!) they even change parts of the body if they are not beautiful enough. They switch a navel for another, pick better legs to put it on another model... I am not telling that models now are ugly monsters but they all look the same. Quote

Hope that answers your q! xx Fair enough... See, I don't wanna be bitchy or something, but there is a difference between a "period" and a "decade" Just to get it straight, no offence On a more relevant note... I voted for the 90's because I associate those times with some models that are generally considered "classic", like Cindy Crawford (my all-time favorite model), Eva Herzigova or Claudia Schiffer... And I like classic things, so voting in this poll was basically a sentiment-driven thing for me. I also love the 50's, 60's and 70's because there was no photoshopping. Models looked genuine. For example, if you look at Playboy centerfolds from the 60's and 70's, you can see REAL women. The 1980's introduced a change in this matter, models started to look like perfect instances of feminity. And the 1990's/2000's were virtually plagued by digital photo editing Nowadays, all I see in men mags are beauty monsters, and not really women as they actually look. Quote
