Though she’s only been in Miami for a year and a half, Danish beauty Nina Agdal has adapted to life in the sun quickly. After her steamy Sports Illustrated Swimsuit spread shot on the sands of Seychelles, she won SI’s Rookie of the Year by popular vote. The 19-year-old bombshell will be at the upcoming Model Beach Volleyball Tournament taking place at the end of March where she will cheer on the co-ed teams of genetically blessed specimens as they compete for grand prizes, which include a weekend getaway to the Bimini Bay Resort and Marina. Agdal dishes with us about beauty secrets, bad pickup lines and where she plans to party during Winter Music Conference. How did you get into modeling? When I was fourteen and a half I was walking down the street with my mom and someone from a modeling agency asked me if I wanted to be a model. What do you think of Miami? I love Miami. I love the beach. I love the weather. I love the energy. If you want to come and have a good time you can stay here. But I wouldn’t want to stay here every day because it would make me lazy. How did it feel to win the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Rookie of the Year? Especially since it was done by popular vote? Somehow it was not like if I didn’t win I would be mad because I was friends with the other girls and they were gorgeous. For me to win, it was a relief because people were talking about it a lot. It was a great honor to get this title. What was the Sports Illustrated shoot like? We shot in Seychelles, some islands near South Africa. When I first arrived, I was already amazed: You could see from one side to the other on the island. We stayed in the most beautiful villa with this amazing staff. What will you be doing at the Model Beach Volleyball Tournament? I’m going to go there to have some fun and eat some good food. I’m not a very good volleyball player. I’m just going to be cheering on the teams and running around having fun. Do you play any sports? I enjoy playing basketball. I’ve been dancing for ten years. I dance hip-hop and disco. It’s very intense. I’m very flexible. Basketball, really? Yep. That’s me with my little shorts and my pink sports bra. What is your work out regimen like? I’m not a fan of working out. If I work out, which I have to do because of my job, I go to the gym and work out my butt and my thighs and a little bit of arms. If the weather is nice I play basketball. At Arthur Godfrey Road there is a basketball court. What do models do to keep their physiques camera-ready? If I know I’m doing an important lingerie or swimsuit shoot, I try not to eat sugar 24 hours before my shoot because I’ve heard that your muscles will look tighter. In general, I just drink a lot of water and green tea. I eat whatever I want but I eat small portions. What are your most important beauty secrets? More water, more sleeping, more smiling. What is the one beauty item that you must have close at all times? I feel like your skin just needs to breathe. I never use products. Every time I use products it has made my skin worse. I believe in natural beauty. How do you feel about plastic surgery? I had surgery myself. My ears used to stick out and I had them pulled in when I was 11. So I can totally understand why people would want to change something because I’ve been there myself. As long as it looks natural, do it. Where are your favorite South Florida haunts? I love Cecconi’s for lunch. I love Jimmy’z Kitchen, they have amazing, simple food. If you want to go a little bit cheaper, I love Pollo Tropical, their half chicken with two sides is something you have to try before you die. How do keep the South Florida guys under control? I was just in Publix and it took me an hour and a half because I got stopped at every corner. The guys are very aggressive. If they want you, they will definitely try to get you. I’m being nice and respectful and I talk to them for a little bit. I just say have a great day, I have to go and I leave. What is the worst pick up line you have encountered so far? Yesterday a guy came up to me and said, “Hey, I forgot your name.” And I meet so many people so I felt so awkward because I thought that I knew him so I said, “I’m Nina! I forgot your name too!” Then he told me that he was just kidding and he didn’t know me but he just wanted to introduce himself. He made me feel so awkward. If you want to talk to me just come up to me and say hey how are you doing, like a normal person. Walk us through your closet, how would you define your style? My normal day outfit would be high-waisted shorts and then a cute old school t-shirt. I love wearing Converse. Very boyish. For a night outfit, I love a tight black dress and insanely high heels. That can make every woman look sexy. What would you like to do after modeling? I would love to do sexy, cute female roles in movies. Acting is a goal after modeling. After that I would start something new. I’ve always been interested in writing, so maybe go back to school and work in journalism. Who is your celebrity crush? Leonardo diCaprio in ‘Titanic.’ I think Ryan Gosling looked absolutely great in that movie ‘Crazy Stupid Love.’ When he took off his shirt I could not breathe for a second. I love tall guys with blue eyes. Miami Beach Fashion Week or Winter Music Conference? I’m going to go to Winter Music Conference. My favorite DJ is Mark Knight. I’m really into house music. If Thomas Gold is playing, I’ll be there. I’ll go to the pool parties and Swedish House Mafia.
