SympathysSilhouette Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I agree with your point about those types of DLCs. They had something similar for Dead Space 3.Can't really see the challenge in having the best possible rig and guns early on in the game. Ruins the game somewhat. Quote
donbot Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 There was also an interesting story the other day on PC Gamer about the on-again-off-again Bioshock movieIrrational’s Ken Levine personally “killed” BioShock film adaptationThe BAFTA awards were given out earlier this month, and apart from being known as the ceremony where winners get a golden face, it’s where a few PC games took a bow for their achievements. Irrational boss Ken Levine was on hand to promote the incoming release of BioShock Infinite, and as Eurogamer reports, he also discusses what happened to the BioShock film and its on-again, off-again director Gore Verbinski.I’ll just let Levine explain it:“There was a deal in place, and it was in production at Universal—Gore Verbinski was directing it. My theory is that Gore wanted to make a hard ‘R’ film—which is like an age 17/18-plus, where you can have blood and naked girls. Well, I don’t think he wanted naked girls. But he wanted a lot of blood.“Then Watchmen came out, and it didn’t do well for whatever reason. The studio then got cold feet about making an R rated $200 million film, and they said what if it was a $80 million film—and Gore didn’t want to make a $80 million film.“They brought another director in, and I didn’t really see the match there. 2K’s one of these companies that puts a lot of creative trust in people, so they said if you want to kill it, kill it. And I killed it.”That’s that, then: we probably won’t see Rapture headline the nearest cineplex anytime soon. It’s not like Hollywood doesn’t have plenty of other game films in the works, and I’d much prefer to remember BioShock as a series of games than as a sprawling entertainment license. Quote
Michael* Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 ^Probably not, really. I don't really like those DLC things that let you start with extra weapons/items, which it seem like it is. Feels like cheating. That said, I already pre-purchased it the instant it came on Steam, as well as the Season Pass. I can't recall there ever being a more 'shut up and take my money' game I might give it a miss for now, then. The puzzle game allowing you to unlock information about Columbia's history piqued my interest a bit, but I don't particularly care for pre-game boosters. Quote
donbot Posted March 23, 2013 Author Posted March 23, 2013 Preloading! :chicken: Just a couple more days.. I can't believe I started this thread in 2010 Quote
Michael* Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Actual TV ads have started to do the rounds here in the UK (and presumably elsewhere too). Not long now... Quote
donbot Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 ^Great Launch day Steam says it unlocks in 15 hours or so, which puts it around 11pm. I wonder how much sleep I'll get tonight Quote
Cult Icon Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Made this post in Donny's members thread: Further thanks for keeping this game on BZ and on the radar: It's a treat to watch: So I searched youtube and look what I found!:They did splendid design work here. Also, What happens to Fink? (the industrialist?) I can't find his fate in youtube. Booker goes far to get an interview with him, but I don't know (if) he actually meets him. Also, where is the politician? Was he taken out of the game? http://bioshock.wiki...iki/Saltonstall ^ (I like this guy's walkthrough because he actually stops to explore everything.) The story is fully appropriate & with a mindf*uck ending. I like the first 1/4th of it the best. The peacetime areas with Colombia city and the beaches in the sky are my favorite. Gorgeous, and more befitting a Pixar film and resembling a visit to Disney world/Six Flags amusement park than a game. The activities of the people in the streets and the shops are all of interest. So it's very 'Shenmue'-ish- where the designers succeed both here and there in crafting a society. The other 3/4th (wartime Colombia) has less substance (found myself skipping a lot of it), and more filler 'bang-bang-bang' but the whole thing is still 5/5. Excellent game. On a related note, I wished they did a 'peacetime' Rapture in the first BS. I've always wondered what that would be...and the juxtaposition and transitional period between the two would have been very welcome to see. Quote
donbot Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Loving it so far Official launch trailer by the way Quote
SympathysSilhouette Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Okay, you guys have me super excited for this. My schedule permitting, I will be picking this up tonight. Quote
SympathysSilhouette Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Made it to Elizabeth.I cannot get over how beautiful this game is.I spent a good deal of time just watching all the eye candy after I reached the beach & boardwalk. Quote
donbot Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 ^ I've been progressing pretty slowly just because there's so much to drink in Quote
SympathysSilhouette Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I just finished the game, just wanted to check with you guys if I got it right: Massive spoilers ahead, so do not read below if you have not yet finished the game. Booker DeWitt and Comstock are one and the same, at least in some universes. DeWitt became Comstock after the events of Wounded Knee. In one universe, Comstock is unable to conceive, so with the help of the Luteces, he procures the child of another universe's version of him (who still goes by DeWitt) and brings it back to his world. This child is deemed a bastard by his wife and is confined to be raised in her tower. Somewhere along the line, Comstock gets rid of the Luteces and his wife (after she too finds out the truth about Elizabeth). The Luteces survive as beings who can perceive the multiverse and exist outside of time. They contact childless DeWitt and bring him to Columbia, where he frees his daughter and kills Comstock. To save the multiverse from Comstock in other universes, they have to go back to the moment Comstock came to be: the baptism. By killing DeWitt at this precise time, they also destroy all the timelines in which Comstock exists. By the way, I loved how one of the alternate realities was Rapture. Quote
Cult Icon Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 SS, try open source http://bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/BioShock_InfiniteI checked the story as well! Quote
donbot Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 I just finished the game, just wanted to check with you guys if I got it right: Massive spoilers ahead, so do not read below if you have not yet finished the game. That's pretty much the gist of it! It really was wonderful storytelling from the start to the end, and quite heartbreaking in fact. I think there are some inconsistencies and things that don't really make sense, which is always going to happen when you start introducing manipulation of space and time, and multiverses - there are inherent paradoxes. I loved the little nod to Rapture and the original game (there's always a lighthouse, there's always a city...) too Quote
SympathysSilhouette Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Another question:What is the significance of the brooch you have to choose for Elizabeth at the beginning of the game? I chose the bird, but does the game change in some way if you choose the cage? Quote
donbot Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 ^I wondered the same..According to the internets though, seems like it's purely cosmetic. It was a little surprising, given the differing endings of Bioshock 1 and 2, but apparently none of the choices you make in Infinite have any real impact on the story, just some slight variations on immediate reactions from people. Quote
donbot Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 There's a rather in-depth look at the story and ending here, well worth a look: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=533205 (Heavy spoilers, obviously) Quote
SympathysSilhouette Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Which makes me wonder: is Bioshock Infinite the best scripted video game ever? I certainly can't think of any better ones... Quote
