LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Today we introduce to you international fashion model Berthold Rothas from Fusion New York. Berthold Rothas born in Romania but grew up in Germany. his hometown is Kirchheim unter Teck. It’s close to Stuttgart, Germany. Berthold spent a year in Vienna taking acting classes. (in his words, One of the best decisions he’s ever made). When Berthold was in acting school he was discovered on the streets & signed with BODY&SOUL in Vienna. They are his mother agency till these day. Last summer Berthold was on a US-road trip. he signed up with a New York agency and booked a couple of shows in New York Fashion Week season. After a year of traveling between Paris, Milan, London now Berthold is based in New York City. Berthold Rothas worked all over the world, he was featured in campaigns, fashion editorials and huge runway shows for Damir Doma, Ann Demeulemeester, Givenchy, John Varvatos, Yohji Yamamoto, Y-3, Diesel Black Gold, Etor, Haider Ackermann, Alexis Mabille, Zero Maria Cornejo, Mik Cire, Junya Watanabe, Marithe and Francois Girbaud, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and many many more…. We made an exclusive interview with Berthold Rothas to our blog nyc-fashion.. here we go: Q: How did you become a model, and what was your first break? A: BODY&SOUL found me when I was homeless in the streets of Vienna. They gave me bread and wine and made me sign a contract with them. Then we made a plan how to make me a supermodel and they sent me to New York for shows. I kicked ass and the rest is history… Q: How do you keep fit, what is your training routine and menu? A: I make as many push-ups as I can and then I will stand in front of the mirror and pose like Arnold. Q: How do you define your style and what your favorite store to shop? A: My style is very simple and shows in details. Places I go for shopping are APC, ACNE, COS and vintage stores all over the world. Q: What are your main interests & hobbies? A: Life is my hobby. Q: What is the one fashion item that you can’t live without? A: When I was little I had this really cool jacket. It was blue with little yellow dinosaurs on it. It absolutely was my favorite. Then I lost it. Does that mean I have to die now? Q: What is your favorite place in New York? A: There is this polish porn club just around the corner where I live. The girls are sitting naked in the window trying to get you inside and fuck them. I’ve never been in there, but it’s definitely one of the places I would show to my friends. Q: Who are some of your favorite models and designers, and why? A: Werner Schreyer, Andre van Noord and Scott Barnhill are the first models that cross my mind on that question. I was very lucky to actually meet Andre and Scott on Haider Ackermann’s Show in Florence this past summer. Scott has a very deep voice. He is a singer in a rockbound and lives in New York. Andre takes beautiful photographs and lives in Holland. They’ve been modeling for several decades and they still look amazing! Q: Which fashion magazines do you like to read? A: French Marie Claire is my favorite. Q: What’s your fashion mantra? A: I start dancing like Michael Jackson. Q: Out of all of the photos the photographer took of you, which is your favorite and why? A: This question is like you ask a mother about her favorite child. I think you can find much beauty in every single photograph of mine. Q: What is fun and rewarding about modeling? A: Traveling to new places. Meeting cool people. Working with the best minds in their field on great projects. Seeing yourself in magazines, on billboards, online and in the newspaper. And last but not least receiving that check from your agent with a lot of zeros on it. Q: What do you dislike about modeling? A: You just never know. Q: What advice do you have for other aspiring models? A: If you want to make it in this industry you need a strong personality. You will need to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not. Many people will turn you down and it’s not always going to be easy. But it is because you’re going through all this, that one day you will able to live up to the requirements. Never be afraid to try something new. Always have faith. Believe in yourself. Never give up. And don’t take it personal. Q: Who are some of your favorite fashion photographers? A: I don’t have a favorite. There are many great photographers out there and I was lucky enough to work with some of them already.. Q: What does fashion mean to you? A: Fashion to me is an instrument to express my personality as well as to pay my bills. Q: What distinguishes a good model from a bad one? A: I think all models are equal. Only that some are more equal than others. Q: How has modeling changed other aspects of your life? A: Modeling has brought me to places and taught me some life lessons. Sometimes painful and confusing. But more often rewarding and inspiring. Everything is changed now and nothing will ever be the same. Amen. Q: what’s inspire you in life as a person? A: I think it is important to keep your eyes open and be aware of the little things in life. For example watching the flame of a candle for a minute or a hot cup of tea that warms your hands on a cold winter’s day can be very inspiring moments. Q: what’s the dream project you fantasize to do? A: Indeed there is a project that I’m fantasizing about all the time. It’s named “my life”. It consists of many little pieces which when you put them together become a masterpiece. One of those pieces is me being an established model that crosses every photographer’s mind when they think about their future projects… Q: thru out your modeling carrier so far what is the best memory you have? A: I’ve had so many great runway shows and photoshoots that I can’t really pick one experience as the “best”. I’m just very grateful for the career that I’ve been given. Q: where do you see yourself in 10 years? A: I will hopefully have evolved and finally grown into a responsible and rich man. Or maybe I will just become rich and stay reckless. I haven’t decided, yet. Q: Do you want to share anything with the viewers that nobody knows? A: He-Man was my favorite action figure, when I was little. He has long blonde hair just like me! Berthold is a great man, with down to earth attitude and easy going personality. his modeling career is high and above and we sure he will continuing his wonderful achievements in the next years to come, so watch out for more and more of Berthold Rothas. we will definitely keep looking for him and bring you up to date with his new projects that comes up.
