gustavsson Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Johan Akan : « Être gay et mannequin c’est très mal vu ». / Johan Akan: ’’Being gay and a model is frowned upon.” Interview by Julien Chadeyron Johan Akan granted myGayTrip.com an interview in which he reveals his favorite destinations, and indulges without restraint. Two boys kissing in a Inrockuptibles this week? The bearded man, this is it! But you had perhaps seen the cover of PREF or STUBBORN, naked in the arms of Catherine Deneuve. Johan Akan model, will not leave you indifferent! For you, we met over coffee. It is not without apprehension that book today in all sincerity to myGayTrip.com. Travel around the world and the heart of the fashion world. Discover her favorite destinations, and below a middle not so gay-friendly. myGayTrip.com: How did you become a model? Johan Akan: In 2005, after my business studies I took a sabbatical. I was spotted in the street by the assistant Fred Farrugia, a great makeup artist, who was in Lyon for the filming of "Top Model 2005." He offers me to try my luck, go to Paris and take some pictures with people you trust. I said yes. Some time later I signed an agency and I won one of my best friends. Dimitri. I went to Paris and 5 months later my agency called me to tell me that Galliano wanted me on his show, it was my first podium. My first ad was made a year later. I was lucky that it is a "worldwide" pub with quite a character. It was a rather gun experience. Is that your real name? Obviously not. When I made the cover of PREF for the first time, the site A Cause Des Garçons had mixed with my name "Akan" they had probably seen hanging somewhere on the internet, because it was a name that I ' used it in email addresses. They mixed the two and it gave Johan Akan. You made several times cover French gay magazine, how it happened? The first time was for Pref. There were two cover story and people had to choose: my number was the most sold (laughs). In fact, as it was a gay magazine, my agency had asked me before if I was OK, it is still there, and I agreed. I made a second cover story for later Pref. For stubborn agency also asked me ... I said why not. They told me it would be naked, I was going to say no, and then they told me it would be with Catherine Deneuve so I said yes. I had never posed nude before, at least certainly not with Catherine Deneuve (laughs). I understood that it would have an impact. When you say "we are still here", referring to the agencies that require the agreement of the models when it comes to gay projects ... you mean what? Before accepting this interview, I asked myself if I had to answer as Johan Akan, model, or if I had to be myself. Accept it was finally doing my coming out and throw a stone into the pond. This is not a revelation to say that there are many gays in the mode and yet be gay and model it is frowned upon: it is better to be discreet. I realize he has taken a risk by agreeing to answer your questions. Some still think being gay may have an impact on the ability of the model to play with a girl, for example. I find it so incomprehensible. Customers clearly ask agencies if the models are straight for their campaign. I find it pathetic and hypocritical that the fashion world actively playing that game! I really did not think that coming in modeling, I would hide my homosexuality when I accepted it perfectly before. You did not have "fear" just by agreeing to make the cover of gay magazines? The issue is part of the problem. I remember reading on a forum someone said, about the cover of Catherine with "Anyway it safe with a gay" and someone said "this is the magazine that is gay not the model! " Sorry, but 99% of models who are stubborn are not gay. So no, I was not afraid, because I was flattered that cover story of gay magazines they put guys whose beauty speaks to many. By your coming out than hoped you? If ever it does not harm me it will show that it had a small effect. The ACDG website puts you in line with Baptiste Giabiconi. It makes you happy? I’m not on his voice and I do not think my career will one day reach his. It has some similarities for sure. We’re on the same niche, as opposed to this movement of new models who do not like the general public. And I think it’s great that someone like Karl Lagerfeld has taken under his wing a real hottie that kiffent girls and the guys … kiffent too. Besides being beautiful, it is nice and not too polluted by all that is going through. After the pub, the modeling, other projects? I am 29 years old this year, even though I look younger, and that I myself shaving 16 years (laughs). I would like to continue because I love parades for example. But the criteria have changed since my arrival. The boys are younger, taller, thinner … But I call: Jean Paul (Gaultier) if you can hear me. Defiler I dream of for you before everything stops Once you start the modeling, we must think about his conversion. I have long wanted to work in fashion but I do not believe to be adapted to this environment. I feel that it gradually becomes one side and keep only the best: encounters, experiences, travels … So actually for my projects, we’ll see. I already want to go back to school next year. You are very active on social networks? Initially, friends told me to make me a Twitter . I do not really see the point. Googlant in my name, I came across some sites where people had multiple pictures of me. It freaked me so it flattered me. I created my account. Clearly people follow me for my photos, so I quickly associate my tweets a picture because it is what followers expect. Outside Paris, where you live, what city do you feel at home? New York without hesitation. In fact I felt at home in New York before going. By dint of watching movies and series, I ended up getting homesick, a city that I did not even know. I wanted to make my first trip there and it was so. Everything tells me there there is such an energy. It is a city where I do not like to go as a tourist. I prefer to take my iPod to my helmet and walk without a plan and I see where I fall … I feel at home because I do not act like a tourist. You’re originally from Lyon? I left Lyon because it lacked energy, this is a great little town and I wanted more excitement. The fact remains that this is a very beautiful city, very chic. I think I will return! Perhaps even to live …Today I begin to appreciate the things that made me leave Lyon: the “quiet”, a more human dimension, and it is also closer to my family. Of all your travels, what are the cities that you preferred? Buenos air . Because I love meat and that is just a killer. There’s something very European in this city, just frozen in time: I love. I love Biarritz . Of great scenery and there also a city frozen in time, with a chic English. There is also a wild side, the beach as I like, not too smooth, and real people. It’s cliché, but I love big waves broke on the rocks. And London . It’s like New York when you do not have money. In London you feel free to do quickly what you want! And they amuse me with their queen: I think it’s as cool as outdated. Favorite places in the world? Meatpacking district in New York . Sleep at Standard hotel brunch at Pastis, and eat a good burger at Shake Shack ( see photo below ): that’s cool. Warehouse district in Hamburg. It resembles the Meatpacking, an underground location. There are many photo studios, artists who settled there. And all the buildings are red brick, huge. I love it. Busaba, a Thai restaurant in London. You to go one or two you share your table. You can make beautiful games. A city to party? Clearly not Paris. The last time I had so much fun, it’s Miami . I did not know at all and it’s great no matter what: you meet girls, you do not know if they are prostitutes, if they will give you a peepshow or just if they go … It’s pretty unlikely. Suddenly you feel guilt-free fast you to do anything. They are partying out in the clubs, on the beach, everywhere I like it. The city where we find the most beautiful guys? Rather the Latin guys, a little Spanish or southern Europe tend to make me crack. I’m obsessing over a low eyebrows and dark eyes so I necessarily find them in the south. It is very strange to answer these questions … A city to fall in love? Nice, especially in summer, is a beautiful city where I myself fell in love. I had a bad image of the south, but I learned to love it. When you get out of Nice to Italy, it is very beautiful. Eze is beautiful. It remained very wild and there are quieter and less touristy really beautiful places with very nice scenery. A city to get married? Hopefully it will be in France, perhaps next year. I do not want to get married in a place just because it’s beautiful. So it would be rather nice side where there is the family of my friend. For a honeymoon? A place where there is white sand, palm trees and turquoise sea.Because I did a lot of traveling but never again and I want to see if it really exists. A Nice water is turquoise but the beach is shingle so it hurts the ass! The most gay-friendly city? Barcelona . It’s good that the city is also gay-friendly. It’s very nice to be with yout boyfriend and just to live a normal sex life, like a straight. Unlike Paris or if you meet someone who pleases you in the street, you have a 95% chance that it is straight in Barcelona, everything is possible, it’s pretty fun. Personally, I prefer the city out gay season. I had the experience of Circuit Festival, and I’m also glad I lived to tell me that I do not do it again. I do not really like the ghetto side. What objects are you taking with you while traveling? My passport (laughs) My book because I travel a lot for work. And my iPhone. This is a revolution, you do everything with, you look at the places, you have a GPS, you are in communication with your family and job, you listen to music, it’s just necessary! Your advice on how to travel? Travelling jogging because it avoids to remove his belt at the airport, you are comfortable in the air and it does not serve the package … (laughs) Rather aisle or window? Corridor not to disturb people. It never happens because I am providing, but if I ever have to go to the toilet on the plane, I would be able to restrain myself for two hours rather than disturb someone. Just shyness. Your next trip? Like most of the time I do not know! The last time I went I knew two days before. The next is scheduled in February, Thailand : I’ve never been there. I want to discover its beaches, and other non-real western culture. The trip of your dreams? This would be the Australia but with more than twenty hours of travel … I think it will not happen for a while. I would have to at least be able to pay me the business to support it! (Laughs) Finally, could you share with users myGayTrip.com a photo taken at one of your recent travels? Picture taken this summer on the beach in Eze. http://www.mygaytrip...est-tres-mal-vu Quote
