Michael* Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 I've only seen the first two episodes so far. As silly as it probably sounds, it feels like the show is simultaneously too funny and not funny enough. That is to say, I think you could get something good out of the premise by going for one of two extremes, a straight-faced, strange feel or a goofy, absurdist romp, but instead the tone is a bit inconsistent. I'll probably watch a few more for Malkovich though, I guess. Quote
jkjk Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 I can't disagree with you, and I can't say it's a great show. I think I said once or twice an episode to myself "that's really funny", and normally at the more subtle stuff. Quote
Michael* Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 I should add though that it's a terrific cast. There are few people I enjoy watching more onscreen than Malkovich in full-on scenery chewing mode. Quote
jkjk Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 He is very Malkovich in this show, and that's only good. Frequently, I find myself relating to his character's frustration with other people. Quote
Michael* Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I finally finished off the series. It felt like they were going for a satire of the Trump administration for some of it, although given that Trump himself would probably think this was a documentary and be slightly confused that the general he put in charge looked like the guy from that old reality show about a paper company, I'm not too sure about the effectiveness of that. The give-and-take between Carell and Malkovich was never less than fun to watch, though. Quote
Clauds Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 The Act, started it today and I've been watching all day, so so so good and I'm upset Joey King didn't actually win any of the awards she was nominated for, she completely nailed. I know she show has a lot inaccuracies but still, the acting is amazing and I understand they needed to change some things to make the show even more dramatic. Quote
jkjk Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 After Life I like it so far. I wish I had kept a list of quotes because I have agreed with so many of the things the main character said. Quote
