TrésChic Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Country Road Autumn 2020 Quote BEHIND THE LENS: IN CONVERSATION WITH CHARLEE FRASER faces in the modelling industry experience a rise as swift as Charlee Fraser. The Indigenous Australian may refer to herself as a ‘model in the making’, but to the rest of the industry, she’s established herself as a force to be reckoned with. Charlee was first scouted by a local photographer in 2013, before making her New York Fashion Week debut shortly after. More recently, she was crowned the Australian Fashion Laureate’s Model of the Year for 2019, and starred in our February ‘Ready to Wear’ campaign. While the trajectory of Charlee’s career continues to soar, the model remains down to earth. When asked about her journey in the fashion industry so far, Charlee’s response is simple: The 24-year-old grew up in Newcastle, born to an Australian mother hailing from the Awabakal people of New South Wales, and an Australian father. Perhaps it’s Charlee’s natural connection to home that allows her to remain so authentic amid the fast and often challenging pace of the fashion industry. Unsurprisingly, Charlee has been heralded as a role model for young girls, a title she has accepted graciously. “Being a role model to young women is one of, if not the most, humbling and encouraging feelings.” In an essay penned for Vogue, Charlee describes the importance of looking after yourself. “Style comes in second to health and wellbeing in this industry. It’s important for models to maintain a well-rounded diet with regular exercise and plenty of hydration. In order to survive in the world of fashion, it’s all about what lies beneath the surface: keeping your body warm when it’s cold, fed when it’s hungry and rested when it’s deprived. Be you. Be healthy.” And as for her opinion of the fashion industry as a whole, the model cites a noticeable shift. “Not only does the industry encourage you to evolve, it does the same. Over my time as a model I’ve noticed the industry has taken a step in the direction of diversity, booking and promoting models of all sorts. I believe Australia closely follows. We’re slowly turning a page in the book of time and beginning to perceive beauty in all forms of race and colour.” Quote
