Model Behaviour

with Charlee Fraser

You’ve seen her face before, in our very own Witchery campaigns or perhaps on the international stage, walking for Celine, Chanel and Dior runways.

Charlee Fraser’s feline eyes, long legs and praiseworthy work ethic are not only the defining features that set the young Australian model apart.

One of this country’s first Indigenous Australian models to make a breakthrough internationally, Charlee has proven to be a top model of the highest honour, winning Model of the Year at the 2019 Australian Fashion Laureate.

Ethnic diversity and respresentation within the fashion industry is something she is passionate about and longs to be the new norm. And for that, the highly sought after Charlee Fraser is a true role model in her own right.

Who is Charlee Fraser?

Charlee Fraser is a passionate, abundantly loving, determined, environmentally friendly, giving, patient and proud Indigenous Australian international model.

Did you always want to be a model, were there any other careers you considered?

The best way to describe how I got here is ‘I didn’t choose modelling, modelling chose me’ (haha). I had just graduated high school (in Newcastle, NSW) and continued studying for a business degree and a beauty certificate when I was scouted.

Do you have any advice for women working within the fashion industry?

My advice to women, and our youth as well, is that you can do absolutely anything you put your mind to!

What changes would you like to see when it comes to First Nations within the fashion industry?

MORE! MORE! MORE! I think we’re heading in the right direction by highlighting Indigenous creatives within the fashion industry and giving them a platform. The end goal – in my opinion – is that this becomes normalised not trendy.

What have been the biggest lessons or hurdles in your career journey?

Numerous lessons and hurdles have made me who I am today. This journey for me has been a beautiful development of getting to know myself, as well as understanding and working towards the woman I want to become.

You are regarded as a role model for many First Nations girls, what does this mean to you?

I’m always so humbled and quite surprised to be considered a role model (I’m just another human being) but as I mature, become more educated and find myself educating others, I feel as though I understand more and more what it truly means to be a role model. For that I am incredibly grateful and hope that I lead a path that I myself, and all of you, are proud of.

2020 has undoubtedly been a unique year, what have you learnt from living through a global pandemic?

Things I felt I already knew were about to happen are currently unfolding and now the world has awoken and we’re all aware of our environmental impact.

During the pandemic, I’ve spend so much time with myself and with nature that I’m determined to survive with it and further my daily challenges of making environmentally conscious decisions.

Your career has taken you around the world, what have been your favourite things about being home in Australia?

A very long list...
- Family
- Friends
- Weather
- Food
- Lifestyle
- Mentality
- Fitness
- Spirituality

W1970 is all about ‘life in the slow lane or days on the go’, what does a typical ‘slow day’ for you look like?

A much needed sleep-in, morning meditation, BIG healthy breakfast, daily exercise, quality time with family, play time with Flynn (our puppy) and a decent amount of time spent outdoors.

What is next for Charlee Fraser?

I am a woman of many desires and I’m never not working on something. #watchthisspace
