^Thanks Shepherd! :heythere:

Saw it this morning. I won't go into too much detail at the moment because I know a great many people have yet to see it, suffice to say it surpassed all my expectations, and has replaced 'The Avengers' as my favourite movie in the current story arc. Continuing the theme of slotting each hero's individual story into its own sub-genre and packing some of the boldest plot developments of any Marvel effort to date, it was almost effortlessly entertaining. Great action sequences, loved the seventies political conspiracy thriller vibe, loved the mid-credits scene and can't wait for the follow-up. Over to you, Joss! :ddr:

Sounds promising! Truth be told, I wasn't expecting that much.

It is @ 94% on Rottentomatoes (49 critics) right now.

Well, the cams are up and it is the most impressive action spectacle out of all the Marvel movies and greatly overshadows the predecessor in this department, 'Captain America'..  The effort put into this is rather special among action movies as it can be seen that they tried to increase the level of tension. I can't comment on anything else because I didn't see most of the rest.  As for the 'The Winter Soldier' himself, he is wielded about like 'the Terminator'.

I'll see the rest later but I think the good reviews are justified.  Still can't stand Scarlett and CA though..

"Hydra's New World Order will arise! We won Captain!  Your Death amounts to the same as your Life..A Zero Sum!"

They were far more economical with the Winter Soldier than I would have expected, but when he is utilised, he makes a great impact. The fight scenes he shares with Captain America are really rather magnificent.

Robert Redford pulls off smug git Alexander Pierce really well too. Once again, I won't elaborate too much on his role just yet for fear of posting spoileriffic information, all I'll say for the time being is that Redford doesn't phone it in like many (and I include myself in that) thought he would.

Hey Michael,Seeing this doesn't come out til friday in the US, I have a question, how much is Peggy Carter in this? Is it flashbacks (I loved the World War II storyline) or is she an old lady?

Redford played a similar role in 'Spy Game' with Brad Pitt.

I can clearly see that some of the inspiration for Alex Pierce is obviously the bloated empty rhetoric & buzzwords used by of United Nations officials..

Unfortunately, I always felt that Sam Jackson phoned it in as 'Fury' (and in Robocop, too).  He doesn't embody the character at all. Same thing with ScarJo and Evans.  Evans does not have the mannerisms, speech patterns, and personality of someone from the 1940s.  He's way too much like an ordinary modern person.  Scarjo...I don't need to get into that :p

This film isn't much about acting, but rather the other things so it doesn't matter as much.  But still, if they focused more on the acting like nolan's films then it would have boasted the series.

:)

Peggy was actually in it a lot less than I'd hoped. Early on in the story, she shares one extended scene with Steve in which she appears as an old lady, and makes a few very very brief appearances via flashback.

In the scene, Peggy is more or less bedridden and appears to be suffering from some kind of dementia. Steve seems to be clinging to his emotional connection with her, it’s implied that he regularly visits her and that he won't actively seek out a romantic relationship with anyone else. For the kind of movie 'Captain America' is, it’s some pretty touching stuff. :(

All may be not be lost if you’re more a fan of Peggy’s younger self though, as from what I understand, a spin-off TV series built around some of her World War II adventures (still starring Hayley Atwell) is in the works. :hehe:

Quite honestly, I’ve had that same thought about Samuel. Very effective casting, but little that touched base with Fury's print character. However of all his Marvel performances to date, this felt the most like watching Fury onscreen, rather than Jackson essentially just being Jackson (which of course is still fun to watch, but I digress ). His role is greatly expanded, and he has more material to sink his teeth into.

Peggy and Steve though

I nearly cried, that scene made me so emotional, and when he said "I can't leave my best girl behind" :cry2: QUIT TOYING WITH MY EMOTIONS. Though why is he so into an old lady though? Steve, there is a difference between cougars and grandmas

And you know the first part where Steve is talking to Falcon whilst they're running?

That list included 'Tim Tams' which the Marvel NZ + Australia Facebook fans got to pick which assortment of the list Steve should learn post awakening, it made me sort of cheerful :D

The real highlight of the film is them bodies. Bucky? Dat body......10/10

And seriously Chris Evans' shoulder to waist ratio???? Is that even possible??? Defying physics????

Good lord (I know you all are grown people here but bare with me, you don't know what the females feel when we see such beauty)

I thought it was a very good film though, the whole Peirce thing was sort of obvious though, and the Fury part. I wish there was a little bit more humour in it, I had plenty of giggles with Thor 2, but not so much here, but there are plenty of good lines that continue to make me want to giggle  :morning:

I just noticed though it's made already 75,000,000 million within it's first week, and it still hasn't even opened in the States so it's doing very well :hehe: And I'm glad. When I went to see it people left instantly before the first post credit was even showed  <_< And they call themselves Marvel fans, Marvel fan my ass  :ermm:

I feel your pain on that. When I went, we were the only ones in the whole place who stayed for the extras. Where on earth have these people been living?

What did you think of the post and mid-credits scenes? :)

It was a surprise to see Loki's scepter again, especially in Strucker's possession. Perhaps Hiddleston will be back after all. Also, I see Marvel have managed to get around the use of the word 'mutants' by calling the Maximoff twins 'miracles', which is certainly more PC at any rate. I suppose they had no option but to get creative.

I think I would have liked to have seen a couple more flashbacks involving Bucky and Steve in this one, would have helped to bridge the gap between eras and flesh out the characters a bit. Although, by the looks of that final scene, they may be saving that for 'Captain America 3: Insert Subtitle Here'.

Bummer she's not in the movie more, sounds touching though.

I'll have to wait for the TV series then(for her, still exciting about the movie). Thanks :flower:

You pay $50 each for these prime tickets but don't bother to stay? /ANGER/

As for the post credits.......

When will they learn Quicksilver needs damn silver hair, we saw more of Wanda then we did Pietro so I was a lil' annoyed, I still don't understand some of the stuff Kretschmann was talking about so I was confused at some points when he was talking, but the sceptre was most puzzling too. How did it get there?

:idk: So basically Avengers 2 revolves once again around a sceptre I assume.

As for the Bucky one, I was sort of disappointed since you always want to stay at the end of Marvel movies to see that last bit, but this was too short and not 'oomphy' enough for me, but I kind of felt sad when I saw Bucky look at himself, the emotions though.. :cry2:

Surely 'Neighbours' should have been ahead of Skippy on the Australian list?

I hadn't heard about the shots being localised for different territories until just the other day, although I did wonder at the time why an American hero would have England's World Cup victory in 1966 down as one of his main things to catch up on. I'd be most interested now to find out how many different ones they made, and what was on them.

Forgot to mention it before, but it was really fun seeing Batroc make an appearance at the beginning. He was an obscure and very over-the-top French villain with a foolish costume and ludicrous moustache.

The movie paid homage to him by toning down his costume but letting him keep his signature colours. :hehe:
