‘It Ends With Us' Director Fought With Blake Lively Over Final Cut

I’m late to this.

There appears to be a rift between “It Ends With Us” star Blake Lively and her director/co-star “Justin Baldoni,” who hasn’t done much press for the film. Social media sleuths noticed that the cast wasn’t really taking photos with him either at the film’s recent premiere.

A bunch of media outlets have caught on to the friction and are now wondering what in the hell is happening between these two. It turns out, it’s an old-fashioned editing room battle that we have going on here.

Multiple sources (via TheInSneider) are now saying that there were competing cuts of the film. Apparently, Lively took over Baldoni’s edit despite his cut having scored higher with audiences. How did Lively get away with this? She has a powerful husband, Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool himself, who “basically took over the movie and buddied up to author Colleen Hoover to see that their cut won.”

The end result is that now “[Justin] Baldoni and Blake [Lively] hate each other,” according to Sneider’s sources, adding that Lively has a massive ego and Hollywood can sometimes tend to reward that.

“It’s wild that the cast would shun Justin and not do press with him. It makes no sense because he’s the only one acting professional,” added a second source.

Baldoni has directed two other movies in his career, 2019’s “Five Feet Apart” and 2020’s “Clouds.” He’s best known for his role in the CW series, “Jane the Virgin.” What’s happened to him with this latest project isn’t fun to hear about. He deserved better than being plunged into a stew of egos.

The end result is that “It Ends With Us” has received very mixed reviews from critics. Maybe #ReleaseTheBaldoniCut could become a thing on social media. With that said, and given the hardcore fanbase Hoover’s novel has, the film is still projected to have a very healthy $25M opening weekend.

“It Ends With Us” is produced by Sony and based on the bestselling romance novel by Hoover. Lively produced the film, which co-stars Baldoni, Brandon Sklenar, Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, and Kevin McKidd.

'It Starts With Us' Movie: Justin Baldoni Thinks Blake Lively Should Direct the Sequel, Colleen Hoover Reacts

Justin Baldoni had double duty on the movie It Ends With Us, playing the role of Ryle and also directing the film. If the sequel It Starts With Us gets made, don’t expect him to return as director.

The 40-year-old actor has already implied that he will not direct the second movie and he’s already suggested that co-star Blake Lively should take the reins.

The book “It Ends With Us” was released in 2016 and author Colleen Hoover released sequel “It Starts With Us” in October 2022, following the success the first book achieved during the pandemic thanks to BookTok.

Justin was asked if he intends to pull double duty again for a sequel movie, if it gets made.

“You’re gonna have to ask me in a little while. We’re gonna take a vacation after this,” he told Entertainment Tonight.

He added, “I think there are better people for that one. I think Blake Lively is ready to direct. That’s what I think.”

Colleen reacted to Justin‘s comments shortly after he made them. She said she’d “absolutely” be interested in having Blake direct.

“I had the best time working with everyone on this movie. I think whoever decides to take charge of the next one would do it justice. I think they’re all in it for the right reasons, so I think that will be exciting. But it’s a lot of people to get the same schedules together again, so we’ll see,” she told ET.

@Lilja K I think it's interesting how Baz Luhrman sticked to Blake till today after he wanted her badly as Daisy in his GATSBY (but that turned out very differently behind the scenes LOL). Maybe they will do a movie afterall one day.

let's say you shouldn't take information from justjared.com, since everything is pretty much about him there. However, they could have found a much better actor for this role, because this figure is unsuitable for an actor, lest he be a professional, it oozes pomposity and thus spoils the entire film!
