Niamh - SA Swimsuit 2014 - Interview

GETTING TO KNOW NIAMH ADKINS

From the first moment we saw her entry, the little Mermaid came to mind. Her energy is glittering, youthful enthusiasm. When you hang out with Niamh everything is fun and every moment looks like an aspirational Coca Cola advert, we get to know this ray of sunshine.

SAS: Your body is off the hook! You work out right?

NA: I love to exercise. I go to the gym six times a week and it’s usually my favourite part of the day because it’s a break from all the school and studies and it’s all about me-time!

SAS: What else do you get up to?

NA: I absolutely love to read, and I’m reading A Storm of Swords at the moment by George R.R Martin (AKA most genius/cruelest man alive). I’m trying to read ahead of my favourite series- Game of Thrones. I really love spoilers, and I feel I need to be mentally prepared just in case any more of my favourite characters die.

SAS: Who is your favourite GOT character?

NA: The character I find most compelling is Tyrion Lannister- I am obsessed with him. I literally check to see how far I have to go to get to his chapters! And when I do I end up reading his lines over and over. This is one of my favourite things he says: “Let them see that their words can cut you and you’ll never be free of the mockery. If they want to give you a name, take it and make it your own. Then that way they can’t hurt you with it anymore.” He is one of the few characters that uses intelligence and wit to fight his battles and he is definitely my fictional inspiration. Oh, and I might have grown up, but I would still dress up as Daenerys Targaryen if I could get my hands on one of her outfits (dragons included).

SAS: What does your perfect evening look like?

NA: I’m definitely a dinner and movies (horror, please) kind of girl, because I love to eat and spend quality time with my friends.

SAS: What’s on your Playlist at the moment?

NA: My favourite kind of music is definitely Country. I grew up listening to it, and Tim McGraw can always make any day great. I play the guitar and the ukulele, and I am guilty of shower-singing.

SAS: What did you want to be when you were little?

NA: All of the Disney princesses- and I considered my royal attire every-day clothing. I think the idea of dressing up has appealed to me from an early age!

SAS: Have you travelled? Where have you been and what was your favourite?

NA: Last December I went to the US with my boyfriend to visit his family. That was so incredible that even going to the supermarket excited me- everything is so different! While we were there we went to Disney World and Universal Studios. I’m very grateful that my boyfriend is so patient, because I made him wait in a line for an hour so that I could buy a wand from Ollivanders and watch me try on Gryffindor robes. I’m clearly also Harry Potter obsessed.

SAS: Who is your idol?

NA: I am surrounded by my idols every day- my family. I hope to be strong like my mother when I am older (and I would love if I looked like her too!) She is the most selfless person I know, and she still makes time for her family despite always working so hard. I really look up to my father because he still has fun like a child- he’s always positive. He also lives a healthy lifestyle- he doesn’t drink, or smoke, and only eats chocolate cake when I bake it. And I am always inspired by my younger sister- she’s a dancer and she’s incredibly hard-working, dedicated and passionate. I am very lucky to be in a family where everyone inspires me to be a better person. My family is very important to me, and anyone who knows me will tell you that my dogs count as family too. I love dogs (Furry children).

SAS: What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

NA: My absolute favourite restaurant is Hudson’s! I love burgers and I’m so glad I don’t live close to it, because I could literally have it every day.

SAS: What has been your biggest challenge so far?

NA: It is difficult to juggle school and modelling, but I always try to make it work.

SAS: What would you do if you won the lotto?

NA: I always tell my mom if I was super rich I would buy her a farm to turn into a shelter, so she could just retire and rescue dogs- she would love that! She loves dogs and would have hundreds if she could (too much love to give!) And I would travel the world. And possibly pay George RR Martin not to kill off Tyrion.

SAS: Who is your favourite fashion designer?

NA: This is too hard- I have way too many! My favourite local designer is Kluk CGDT. And I don’t think there’s a girl alive that hasn’t fallen in love with an Elie Saab evening gown. Instagram should definitely count as a hobby (@niamhadkins)- it’s my favourite way to see fashion trends.
