Death penalty Abolition passed on 18 September, by 363 votes to 117

 
Robert Badinter, a longtime opponent of capital punishment and the defending lawyer of some of the last men to be executed, became minister of justice and proposed the final abolition of the death penalty in 1981, which was pushed through the National Assembly with the backing of newly elected president François Mitterrand.

I think the copy writer was joking when he made this nonsense graphic with fallacious, unadjusted stats:

 

This "Average American" must be some piece of work if he/she sleeps 9 hours a day and watches TV for 3 hours (most certainly will cause severe brain damage).  Cares for the elderly/children for half hour..  works for 3 1/2 hours..
