It's probably sacrilegious or something as a VS fan but I don't start liking shows until post-Janet. 2005-2008 is the pinnacle, Gisele's Fantasy Bra opening haunts me in the best way, and I can't really say exactly why but everything felt sexier with that dark lighting and that high-glam makeup. I miss those remixes, good God. I nearly cried over I Like the Way You Move / Carol of the Bells being in last year's holiday commercial. I feel like the best era will never again be replicated because pop culture was different, modelling was different, attitudes were different. And that saddens me but I know there's a way to adapt and VS is not doing it. I take my girls in their knickers very seriously. Quote

The outfits now are either too simple and boring or too much over the top. And she always has her weird ideas to make everything couture. I also believe it's just better to have more than one person designing the outfits to have some more input. but I blame that on Ed and Monica aswell. Monica seems to be pretty involved in the collection design process and I don't understand how they think some pieces work on the runway. I don't pay attention to who exactly the higher ups are, to be honest, but I've heard mention of Sophia's arrival, Todd Thomas' departure, and a French guy's departure (can't remember his name haha) as things that gradually caused it to become what it is today. Bottom line, VS now seems most interested in branding its own Angels - who don't do much work outside of VS - rather than getting together a bunch of top models. It wants to "discover" supermodels who are then synonymous with VS, as it basically did with Ale, Candice, and arguably Adriana (seems like she had other high profile work, including Maybelline, early on as well). Elsa and Behati are two of the latest girls they've been working to do this with. Doesn't seem like they're interested in getting Giseles or Tyras anymore - girls who are established in their own right and then do VS. It's a really stupid approach IMO, but that's what VS seems to be doing. They also seem to be trying to find models who are younger than before and appeal more to women than to men....this might be due to a shift in marketing for VS all-around. Quote
ticktock Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 A lot of comments I am seeing about the show on other sites are horrible (from non vs/model fans). Not a good look, VS. Quote

Gisele's FB opening is everything and at this point I'm 99% sure it'll never be topped. That was lightning in a bottle. Yikes @ those ratings though. I understand the way people watch live TV has changed drastically but losing over 3 million viewers in a year and dropping that much in their target demo is NOT only because of that. They really need to rework so much. Quote

(When You Were Young/Come Fly With Me, I Like The Way You Move, I Want Candy/Pon de Replay, Bang Bang by Audio Bullies, and the Seal songs - so great). Oh, and Carol of the Bells in the holiday commercials was so amazing. Quote
Souled-Out Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 IDK how anybody liked the show. It sucked. And the ratings reflected just that. VS has been on this decline for years I always thought and I haven't been proven wrong yet. Its not the same. The models not the same. The team isn't the same. The show isn't the same, VS call themselves conforming and evolving... thats just not what they are doing. They are sinking. People on here can try to say otherwise and say "VS knows what they are doing" but yet you all can't come up with a legit reason of why their ratings and stuff is declining. Quote

With these last three years as my least favorite. Just because they are suddenly devoid of moments I can see myself remembering in 5-10 years. Like Candice's break-out moment in 2007. Or Karolina Kurkova's toy soldier walk in 2005. Another mistake - which I totally understand from a PR point of view - was getting rid of the DJ mixes for live performers. The soundtrack of those earlier VSFS added a lot to the experience. I would say pretty much 2012 and the shows previous to that excluding 2011(that was a little messy). I think 2005-2008 dominates for me, but don't get wrong, shows 2003 and before were supermodel era. But, the shows I believe I'd re-watched the most again and again are 2005-2008. 2013 was good especially Parisian Nights. As for 2014, the outfits and stage setup was great, but the overload of new models and song on holiday commercial ruined it for me. So pretty much that's when things started to really go downhill. Now which models are the queens of VS? Quote

In minority here but I didn't like the Gisele era and I've never liked Gisele. Aside from that, some aspects in the show were better then and some are better now. Still surprised the vsfs dropped so much this year. It's a big drop from last year regardless of the cast or the quality of the show. Quote
DeadlyRebel Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I've thought about the future of VS a while ago, especially being the 20th anniversary and How long do you all think the VSFS is going to exist? Like 5 years or 10, maybe another 20? Quote
HitchcockBlonde Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I honestly don't see them making it another 10 years, at least not on network television. I feel like they'll move over to being a thing you can order (like Pacquiao v Mayweather? what are those called? on-demand?) but if they keep dropping viewers that wouldn't be the most practical idea. But with the Swim Special, a potential swim show (which I don't believe will ever happen but anyway), an app, memberships, expansion of PINK and VSX, there are a lot of different outlets for them to promote with. A VSTV type thing on the site where they showcase all of their brands might be cool. They're headed there with their youtube channel, it's not a huge leap to start producing little episodes featuring the angels working out, cooking, behind the scenes, daily lives, so on. Am I coming across well? As usual with VS, I don't have a clue. Quote
Marciotmello Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 How can Gigi say she's a major fan of VS and 2 min later she says the most expensive Fantasy Bra ever was worth of US$5,000,000? And Candice who wore the 10mi is her favourite angel Everyone who has readen the Ginners book know that Gisele wore the damn 15mi bra Quote
Warhol Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 What happened with Kate G and her powerfull walk? Elsa was a million times better to close the Boho segment. Rachel was clearly nervous. Romee, Stella and Laís was "whatever" Jas, Jac, Elsa, Adriana, Alessandra, Elsa and Candice was perfect. Sara, Cindy Bruna was a little efusive. Behati has no power to open the show. Dani Braga was terrible, wth Quote

Haha, I also cannot predict what they're thinking ever, since they always seem to do the opposite of what I would do. For a while I thought maybe they were just offending fashion-types and loyal VSFS fans with the direction they were going, but that the public liked this sort of thing (not that great of models, high-profile musical acts that didn't really fit the image, costumes on the runway). Judging by this year's viewership ratings, however, it doesn't look like they're pleasing the public anymore, either. People I know IRL also said they weren't impressed. A lot of your ideas are good, HitchcockBlonde. I honestly never understand what they're thinking, so your guess is probably better than mine. Imagine, though, if they still did '05-'07-style VS shows and held a lingerie show as well as a swimwear show - or just made a longer VSFS once per year showcasing their lingerie, clothing (VSX, sleepwear), and swimsuits. I would love either of those options. VS has great swimsuits; at least they have a "Swim Special" now, though, which is something. Props to Prettyphile for being one of the first I saw floating around the idea of a VS swimwear show. Quote
toodarnhot Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I saw one of the comments on youtube or instagram saying VS should cut a deal with Netflix and make all the past shows available. I think doing that, and then releasing the VSFS on Netflix every year much like comedians do with their comedy specials would be a good move for them. I know a lot of people in their target demographic that haven't paid for cable in years, but have a religious dedication to their Netflix account. It makes watching the show more convenient- you don't have to tune in at a specific time or end up missing it- and there's a replay value. Quote
