Ramos press conference

"There's nothing more beautiful than playing at the Bernabéu; we want the fans to have fun"

Sergio Ramos appeared before the press today after the squad had completing its training. The defender, currently recovering from a bruised instep, is optimistic and excited about the important clashes approaching on the calendar, but is at the same time cautious. "We have to take one match at a time. First up, Getafe, who we have to respect a great deal," said Ramos.

First of all, how is you recovery coming along?

Everything is on course and looks good. I'm training and getting back into form and the rhythm of things. We'll see if I'll be ready by Sunday, but either way, I am pleased.

Today you could really see the good vibes among the squad.

There are always great vibes in the dressing room. It's important for the squad. We all have faith in the coach and are happy with the work we are doing. We want to give back the confidence he has deposited in us with positive results.

What are your thoughts on the Sevilla-Betis Cup controversy?

That's not my business. As a Sevillian and Andalusian, I have always liked that derby, but those problems don't concern me. As a kid growing up there you know it's a huge rivalry in Sevilla. If only they could focus on the sporting aspect and the match to make sure the fans have fun.

Who would you like to win, Barcelona or Zaragoza?

May the best team win, whether it Barça or Zaragoza. As a spectator, I just want to see good football. Unfortunately, we're no longer in the competition.

The hardest part of the calendar has yet to be played.

The upcoming schedule is really complicated. We all want to beat Getafe, Bayern, and Barça. But we have to focus and take each match at a time.

Is it hard to focus on Getafe with Bayern and Barça around the corner?

We have to watch out for Getafe because they have proven to be a great team with great players. We cannot relax because we want the Bernabéu to enjoy our football. Each match is important, and up next we have Getafe. All three are great teams, but we have to take things slowly. We know we have to win to take advantage of other teams slipping up.

This year the team has tallied fewer points than years past.

There are many teams who don't have the same points as other seasons. Every League campaign is an eternity. We have to concentrate on not losing more points, and that's it.

There's been talk about signing Alexis.

I played with Alexis on the Under-21 team. I think he's a good footballer and person. He's always well-positioned and does well in attack. Anyone who can make Madrid better is welcome.

And what can you say about Cesc?

Cesc is a fantastic player, especially at his age. He's crucial to Arsenal's success. If he can contribute, bring him.

Does talking about new signings affect you at this stage of the championship?

We're professionals and we constantly deal will rumours about signings and anything else concerning this Club. But all we have to worry about is playing and achieving the goals we set out to accomplish.

What teams do you think are playing the best football?

Each team and coach has its own ideas. Right now we're not playing well on a consistent basis, but we hope that changes from here on out. Sevilla play good football, as do Getafe, Valencia, and Barcelona.

Is there too much pressure on you playing at the Bernabéu?

No, not at all. For me, there's nothing more beautiful than playing at the Bernabéu. Our fans may be upset about all the matches we've lost at home, but we hope they have fun this Sunday, and that we do as well when we take the pitch.

How do you find Cannavaro?

Cannavaro has contributed a lot to the team since arriving. He proved how good he is in Italy and the World Cup, and now at Real Madrid. He's almost fully adjusted and will continue giving us so much.

The Getafe match in the first half of the season was cause for a team meeting afterward.

It was only logical that the team met after the match. Everyone talked about how they thought we could improve. No one pounded their fists on the table. We all want to improve, and I think it served its purpose to a large extent.

Beating Getafe, Bayern And Barça Crucial, Believes Ramos

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos believes that winning the upcoming three games against Getafe, Bayern Munich and Barcelona is crucial to Los Merengues' season.

"It is quite a complicated set of fixtures looming, with games that we all want to play," said Ramos.

"It is a basic requirement that we beat Getafe, then come Bayern, and soon enough, 'El Clasico'.

"However, first we must focus on Getafe. They are showing that they are a great team, and we cannot take it easy.

"We have not picked up many points [at home]. We must now take a step back, and start making our fans happy once again, and making sure we take all three points."

Despite the poor home form, and Madrid's superior home record, he insisted he still preferred playing at the Bernabeu.

"There is nothing more wonderful that playing in front of your fans," he insisted. "It can happen that they can get upset when we drop points, but we hope that they will enjoy themselves this Sunday."

He also showed complete faith in coach Fabio Capello: "We all trust the 'mister' complete, and we are very satisfied with him. We are just looking to repay him for the confidence that he has in us."

The former Sevilla man also endorsed Getafe defender Alexis, and Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas, both of whom have been linked with Real Madrid recently.

Of Alexis, he said: "I have played alongside him for the [under-21] national team, and I like him a lot, both as a person and a player. He jumps very well, and has a great sense of positioning.

As for Fabregas, he said: "He is a great player. Few of his age can do what he has been doing at Arsenal. We have a lot of central midfielders here, but if he can contribute something better, he is most welcome."
