Based on this years lineup and the shift of the last few years, I get the impression MJ's trying to shift the demographic of SI toward females so she's maybe trying to pick models that would appeal to the feminist, woman power audience. Which isn't bad and, to be fair, I actually know more women that follow it than men nowadays, but she's still missing the mark even among women, I think.

It seems like the lineup is mostly the weakest of the weak. The only rookies I really care for are Chase and Robin, but even then, they feel more VS than SI to me so my liking them is mostly just 'cause I like them as models, not 'cause I like them for this issue. The veterans are tragically weak. Barbara is probably the strongest of the lot, but at this point, I'm actually drawing a blank on which vets are even in the magazine this year because the whole thing has been so... anticlimactic, I guess? The hype just isn't there.

Unlike most of y'all, I actually think it's cool that she's trying to go for plus size models, but she's choosing bad models. Most of them aren't that pretty face-wise and their posing is really unflattering. They aren't exactly athletic, but they have flat stomachs, they don't have "fat rolls," and they're probably not quite in the "obese" category, but the swimsuits and posing makes them look way bigger. Every model has to pose to their body type and these models seem to think they can pose exactly the same as any skinny model, but even skinny models have to pose to their strengths. Models with shorter legs, shorter necks, less prominent hips, etc. This is just making some of them look even bigger than they are and instead of "celebrating" body diversity it's sort of highlighting their flaws and asking for people to drag them through the mud.

Then you have Anna who looks like she's posing for Playboy and dissolving any semblance of having hips, Alexis looks like Sam Hoopes 2.0, Ravn and Ebonee are boring as hell, and most of the models look like they're just standing in front of a camera. What happened to the days when they actually looked like they were having fun?

I don't think that this intentional shift is due to MJ alone.  There's also her superiors who see a rationale in this.

I can kind of see the meaning. Eg. Clothing stores in the last 10 years have diversified into "plus size" fashion lines a lot more than prior, and even the mannequins have changed.  However, the mannequins are generally of attractive figures such as the below.  The plus size models MJ chose are too much and way too fat.

ALL this tea guys yess . prettyphile u were on point girl,  btw lmao if Hunter Mcdonalds wins ROY.

After she lost the MD i don't think so, that would be like admitting the poll is rigged

Voting is only until February 2?  Jeez we won't even see all the pics.    Why don't they run the poll starting with when all the pics are released?

Unless they've already made up their mind of course

With the limited resources I have to make a decision, I guess I'll go with Raven

Is Olivia the most famous? If so, that probably helps a lot.  :idk:

That is especially true since the vote will be closed before most of the photos are seen.

She is the most famous of the pack and she has been doing promos for SISE on major entertainment shows. Also her boyfriend was just named the AFC MVP and is playing in the Superbowl. If The Pats win her chances of being chosen will increase---let's face it, we all know this whole thing is rigged :cain:

I should have thought about past votes before asking that. The votes probably don't matter.

If the votes mattered, being more known (or having more followers) could definitely help get more votes. I guess we will know for sure when Hunter wins.

I don't think Hunter will win b/c that would make it too obvious the thing is rigged but you never know with MJ & her crew :p

If votes really mattered I think it will be between Alexis or Olivia, and maybe Anne or Georgia.

There are definitely not wanting people to vote based on the shoots, since the vote will be over before most of the photos come out.   :cain:

@jkjk - SI has already decided who's rookie of the year. The results are fixed within a margin of degree and are subject to change at a whim. The voting is to make people feel like they're included in the outcome, nothing more, nothing less.

SI used to show the real time percentages of scores and didn't understand math. I forget the year but one year the results closed with 97% of the votes, another 101% . Another year Samantha Hoopes sat at around 7-8% of the votes for two weeks, and in the last two minutes of voting before it closed she jumped to 20%.... cause that doesn't look obvious

SI got called out on rigging the outcomes year after year so they remove the % to leave us all in the dark.'

101% of the votes

Comment from one of our members:

The voting is rigged.

I literally set up an autovoting clicker to vote over 10,000 times last year to test this, and the numbers never moved. Not to mention, a mere week before the results were final, rookies like Adaora who were running at 3% shot up to within a percent of the leaders. It's a joke. Don't bother worrying about it.

4Chan and Reddit got involved one year and sent hundreds of thousands of votes at Sara Sampaio, and it didn't move her percentage at all...

That's not surprising. As with most websites, it's about clicks. The false pretense of your vote mattering just gets more traffic to the site.

I noticed this one year with the voting, but didn't think much about it (probably because I didn't care who won).

I know it's rigged, but I wonder if SI looks at the actual numbers when they're considering who to bring back for the next year?

They brought back 5/7 of last years rookies, and Myla ranking higher than Kelly G seems wrong to me but maybe I'm just biased.

Those in the know, is there any chance if this year's SISI tanks that MJ gets fired or does she have body diversity immunity? :nicole:
