I've practiced some fencing when I was a kid. Like martial arts, it allows you to focus your energy and fighting spirit. Quote

Like martial arts, it allows you to focus your energy and fighting spirit. I watched the ones on the Katana vs. Longsword, Da Dao, and Jin. It's interesting to hear about the strange history of these weapons and his appraisal of how effective they are. The Katana/Da Dao/Jin could be the most overrated swords in history due to Asian martial arts/Anime/Japanese/Kung fu films/pop culture if the flaws identified are correct. I like how the Katana is cut down to size: 1. far too short 2. very bad handguard 3. only good at cutting and thrusting. The Jin is pretty similar to the katana and the Da Dao was the real weapon that was used in war. I also never knew that the Samurai Armor was considered somewhat primitive by European standards and equivalent to the early middle ages. It seems that Chinese arms and armor didn't progress past this level for many centuries. The japanese were constrained by their provincialism and lack of competition. Have you seen the film "Master and Commander"? Great movie Quote

He seems to say that Katanas are better for beginners because it's more forgiving. It makes sense. We tend to forget that swordsmanship was a real art in Europe a couple of centuries ago, but we didn't keep the sword mythology as much as the Japanese did with the katana. Also, you have to consider that, to us, he kinda plays the enemy (with his king being the tyrannical despot who fights against freedom ) Because the best "Britain" is the one from Rennes to Brest (aka French Brittany) Spoiler And the best of the Celtic Isles is Ireland Spoiler And the best nation in Great Britain is Scotland (Wales is alright as well) Spoiler But don't worry, we like the English anyway Spoiler Quote
