PlayGirl Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 La.Direct mag Holly Madison WOMAN OF THE HOUSE by Jonah Sheppard Holly Madison relishes the chance to show the world who she really is. The success of her reality show, The Girls Next Door, has proven that the world wants to know what makes her tick. Every move and thought of Holly Madison has a common denomina-tor; the Playboy Mansion. She walks the iconic Playboy Mansion with comfort, and absent effort, like a head curator would. It makes one wonder; has Hugh Hefner ever had a girlfriend who fits in this well? Hugh Hefner, now commonly referred to as “Hef,” is no stranger to girlfriends. His quasi-polygamous routine (at one time Hef had seven different girlfriends with him at all times and living in the mansion with him) is no secret. However, his special relationship with Holly adds a new dimension to the Playboy storyline. Holly still does not claim Hef as her own. She, along with Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson make up Hef’s current harem. However, Holly’s role around the mansion and with Hef is quite unique. Holly is the woman of the house — a house with some extraordinary duties — and works hard to make it a home for herself, her friends and her loved ones. The 27-year-old chimes in, “I am mature for my age. I don’t exactly fit the mold of what people expect from Hugh Hefner’s girlfriend. People expect me to be like a porn star; sexual and sleazy. But, that’s just really not me. I relate more to a classic look, and am quiet and reserved.” Holly doesn’t need to clean the house, although she can and will notice when somebody’s cut a corner (or missed cleaning one). She’s more involved with representing the foundation and traditions of the mansion and caring for it in a manner that aligns with her position in Playboy. For example, Holly spends her free time touching up the mansion. “I love architecture, design, style… and this house. Hef is a guy. I don’t want to say he does not pay attention to detail because he’s an editor of a magazine, but I like to make sure everything is up -to-date.” The busty blonde does not shy away from being a sex symbol. She understands that sexy can be and has been so many things over the years. It can be construed as confidence — or the lack thereof. “I am not a Playmate, I am Hef’s girlfriend, and that means a lot to me,” Holly says. Let’s face it, in 2007, “classy” has multiple definitions. It is all always relative, isn’t it? In entertainment and more specifically in the Playboy Mansion, class is determined using a different measuring stick. The Playboy Mansion measuring stick might as well have a picture of Holly on it because she is the benchmark. Holly was introduced to Hef at a mansion party by a friend of his who had spotted her in a bikini contest. That Wednesday, Hef invited her out to Las Palmas, the then “place to be” in Hollywood. Two days later, she moved into the mansion to share the title of “Hef’s girlfriend” with a half-dozen others. “That was not the best time at the mansion,” says Holly. “A lot of girls were after Hef because of his fame and money, and I wasn’t sure I was going to make it through all the cattiness. I’m realistic and I knew I was entering an unusual situation, and I wasn’t sure how it was going to go.” Holly’s the only one from the seven girlfriends to remain involved with Hef. “I’ve always had a crush on Hef,” says Holly. “Now that we’ve gotten to know each other, we really get along.” When asked if she thinks she is his dream girl, Holly replies, “I hope I am his dream girl, he tells me I am good for him.” For a guy who has been witness to the most beautiful women in the world for generations on end, that’s an impressive thing. “It’s a really big compliment,” she says. According to Holly, “Hef is a wonderful man. Contrary to popular belief, Hef is not very critical. He would rather us be a little overweight than underweight. The only pressure I have, I put on myself.” The dormitory-lifestyle of the Playboy Mansion obviously hasn’t gotten old for Hugh Hefner, 80. At 1 pm, in his pajamas and freshly out of bed, Hef comes running into the viewing room looking for Holly. Holly sprawled out on a couch, posing for a photographer and his crew, shrieks, “hi honey!” Hef runs into the view of the camera and says, “babe, I need you to take the girls out to lunch tomorrow so I know where they are.” (Hef was announcing “Playmate of the Year” the next day, and the “girls” he was so anxiously referring to were the nominees). Then he noticed the crew cemented all around him. “Oh, but we can talk about this later,” he says, and with a quick kiss for Holly, he exited. Life as usual around the mansion. She keeps the house together and her man happy. She works. She’s on the phone night and day with E! Channel producers preparing to shoot episodes of The Girls Next Door’s third season. “I’m generally excited about life,” explains Holly. And that’s a great thing, no matter what setting you’re in. photography by james creighton styled by nicole janowicz makeup & hair by betty johnson Quote
