I'm done with reviewing 80% of Witcher 2.

The artistic choices continue to be baffling- small, linear maps..ugly art and very dark colors.  It's like dark green/brown/black/grey all the time.  Like the Netflix series, a continous focus on the magic, politics and plots side of the Witcher novels.  And, the weird retconn/omission of Ciri/Yenn and also the dark relationship of Philipa and Geralt.   They shouldn't be friends at all and CDPR rehabilitated her somewhat.  Also there is limited Geralt/Triss content and their relationship is written in a shallow way compared to the relationships in the W3.  This is quite disappointing for me.

Geralt is not written anywhere as well as he was in W3.  He has little charm here besides some sarcasm, and the conversations in the W2 mostly are flat, and boring.. bloated with exposition.  The lack of focus on human relationships/charisma/natural human interaction in W2 and the Netflix show is a serious error.

The Witcher 3 is a massive tonal shift and a massive improvement over the W2 in so many aspects. They used stuff they developed in W2 for the W3, but they also threw out a lot that wasn't good.   I think they made many mistakes in W2 (or less than optimal decisions) but by the time they made W3 they figured how to do things better. It seems that CDPR completely changed course, dropping the new W2 interface/engine and went back W1 structure but made it much more advanced.    Overall W3 owes much more to W1 than W2.

Finished 100% of Witcher 2 and all side quests.

Unlike W1/W3 the game has an extreme focus on politics and plots.  It is loyal to the novels and very complicated.  Overall it is impressive achievement but definitely polarizing.  Players who aren't into game of thrones will be even less interested in Witcher politics.   Where they dropped the ball was getting players to be truly invested in the characters and political stakes.  Game of Throne's most important attribute was the very charismatic characters.  Witcher 2 and the Netflix show have the same problem of not getting the audience invested in the characters' fates.

The Roche Path is far superior to the Ioveth path and dramatically improved the game.  The developers did more work here.  However, Roche is a rather boring/generic character.  They could have replaced Roche with a much more interesting personality.  I was very surprised to see how significant he was in W2, literally Geralt's no. 2 if you take the Roche Path.

There are a few, maybe 3 or so side quests that are as good as those in W3.  The rest are about Assasin's creed level.   W2 is a solidly long game, maybe 40 hrs if one plays all side quests/ both paths, and a lot less if they play only 1 path.  Witcher 1 is about 50 hrs for a 100% playthrough.  An efficient W3/DLC 100% playthrough is over 130 hours.

Princess Anais is a stand-in for child Ciri and will likely appear in Witcher 4.  W2's story provides the background for many characters that re-appear in W3, in particular the Temeria/Radovid drama and the Sorceresses of the Lodge.

I'm a big user of fans for desktop/laptop health and always have a desk fan on.

I am getting this laptop cooling fan in the mail today:

 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09D6J56NS?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

@Enrico_sw  do you use special fans?

I have a tower (desktop PC) with 4 chassis fans. The tower itself has optimized air flow paths and I have watercooling on my CPU (cooler master).  I like watercooling, but you gotta chose some reliable gear (cause the cheapest ones can break easily) and depending on the prices it's not always the best solution.

Having good fans / cooling system is key if you want to overclock your PC.

I've never installed the cooling system in a desktop.  was it easy/safe for you?  I was always afraid of screwing something up so I never did it.

It's not that hard.

For Chassis fans, you have to be careful with airflow directions. The directions of the fans should act together. Usually it's pretty easy, because the air comes from the front and is blown out in the back of the tower. You have towers with more complex, but the manuals are very explicit about how to optimize the airflows.

In the past cable management was a pain, because cables could disrupt airflow, but modern towers provide a space to isolate them and secure them with zip ties.

For the CPU fan (or watercooling), the only thing to be careful with is thermal paste (but it's not that hard: you just put a nut or a X cross on the CPU and then you add the fan => done).

What I should do more often is clean the dust......

you have a can of gas duster right?

My old method was just to open the side of desktop and put a fan backwards (ghetto method) but it seemed to work.  Then dust it periodically  However it exposes the components to more dust than usual and isn't the best thing to do.

you sound like someone who builds his own PCs - is that right?

The first letter and the first meeting with Yennefer requires playing the Witcher 2 to understand the nuances.  Yennefer refers to Geralt as "friend" and this references a situation in the novels.  It also requires reading the novels to fully understand Yen's later reactions.  The meeting with Emperor Emhir is altered as well.  The general's questions are all related to the Witcher 2, and Geralt's answers to them will effect relationships later on in the story. Also Geralt's great contempt for Emhir and the "black ones" hits very differently if one has read all the books.

I use a cloth and vacuum cleaner. Every couple of months, I open the desktop and remove the chassis fans (that I clean with a q tip). I don't like doing it but if there's too much dust, especially on the radiator, it's bad for the PC.

Yep, I do. It's less expensive and more fun ;)

Doug Cockle reveals in his video that CDPR advised him to base Geralt on Clint Eastwood.  So much makes sense now..

Do we have news on the Witcher 4? Is it going to be on Lambert and Keira?

haven't heard of any news except it is supposed to be about the "school of the lynx" and that Geralt's story is finished.

There is no such thing in the novels so I have no idea what's going to be in the game.

Have you played W1 and W2 ?  I seem to remember you saying that you played W2 and tried W1 but found it too outdated.
