Yes NBC news is cheap. Yes fighting for something you believe in isn't worth sacrifice. Yes he should be with his son rather than fighting next to his men and doing his duty which he signed up for. Yes being a real man in life isn't a duty. Yes you've summed up the type of person you are in life w/ those lines.

Secondly, how do you know that his man "believes" in this war as you put it?

He signed up to the military. His personal beliefs aren't relevant, he is sent wherever his superiors see fit.

Being a man is living humbly for something. Which is exactly what he can do by being a good father to his son. Serving in the military in itself does not make you 'a man'.
