What? No Dimebag (RIP) or Zakk Wylde?

As far as technical skills, they probably should be on there, but they don't have the influence or impact of these guys, not to mention the popularity...

Plus, if one factors in composition skills, they don't have it. Someone like Page could improvise things (as in make something up as he goes) that most guitarists would take years to ocme up with.

Yes, Page influenced many. But so did Dime, he influenced a lot of today's metal guitarists. Then again, metal isn't really a popular genre of music. Also, Dime was also good at improvising. A lot of his solo's were just off the cuff and in the moment.

Hendrix, hands down.

McLaughlin is excellent, but he ain't rock'n'roll.

Tough one, but I picked Petrucci over Rhoads, though I might have voted for Alexi Laiho if he was on the list...

Hendrix, period, not considering how incredible he was in other styles.

Jimi Hendrix. I don't know much about rock music, but I do know he is the greatest, or one of the greats.

There's five on there who's music I actually like: Brian May, David Gilmour, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton... and in the end I went with David Gilmour.

i play guitar (which im sure everyone does), i went with vai just cause tonight im going to see him in concert tonight, but i did have a page obsession for a while, and jimi, i love him to death, but hes completely overrated (dont kill me for this one ) i guess if it wasent for like playing tech and shit that steve vai has, id totally go with Jimmy page, amazing by all aspects, still doesnt have the chops vai does, but then again vai is a horrible song writer , SO HONESTLY I DONT NO< I LOVE JIMMY PAGE< BUT I LOVE VAI TECH PLAYING !!!!!!!

ps : if ur lookin for guitar players (jazz or just tech playing) Al Di Meola is great, check into him

Credit must be given to Zakk Wylde, although his achievements are tiny in comparison with legends like Hendrix, Page or Clapton. He's got great technique.
