His dad is from The Netherlands, is mom is from Cape-Vert.

So, Luís Borges has two main striking physical features from both countries: his light tone skin and his afro hair.

But, Luís always thought of himself as an 'ugly duckling' and never thought that his out of the ordinary looks were a synonym of beauty.

And it has been his different looks which have made him get noticed on the runways and caught the eye of the international fashion experts.

Luís got in to the fashion world because his sister, Gisela, signed him up for the Elite Model Look contest, without him knowing.

He got chosen and was booked by Central Models agency.

Meanwhile, he started working in a clothes store, Diesel, in Lisbon until the opportunity to fly to Paris came up.

Only with a book filled with polaroids he tried his luck, and got a contract with MGM (Marilyn Gaultier Man).

From then on he has walked the runway of the biggest fashion capitals, in shows such as:

Iceberg, General Idea, Y-3, Richard Chai, Choon, Kris Van Assche, DKNY, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermés, Costume National,

Etro, Neil Barrett, Custo Barcelona, Dior Homme, Paul Smith, Miharayasuhiro, Wooyoungmi and Rynshu.

But Luís travels also, a lot, to New York where he's represented by DNA Models.

Actually, he came back recently from 'The Big Apple' where he was shooting a campaign for Tommy Hilfiger and other for Benetton.

With just a year and a half of being in this industry, Luís already shot for GQ China, Interview Magazine, GQ Portugal, N-Style, Relance among others.

Last February Luís was considered one of the 'top male faces in the world' by models.com and was also, recently, nominated for a Golden Globe in Portugal for Best Portuguese Male Model of 2009.
