St Tom Van Dorpe
For VMAN's latest issue, they take a look at certain decades. Sharif Hamza and Tom Van Dorpe take on the iconic style of the 1950s, epitomized by The Happy Days, Grease, and The Outsiders.Simon Nessman, Nicolas Ripoll, Jakob Wiechmann, Justin Bravo, Matthew Terry and Matthew Coatsworth all appear in this shoot set in a 1950s diner with the slicked back hair and attitude that's unmistakably 50s.

Matthew Terry & Clark Cord | VMAN 23 Fall 2011by Damien NevaAs far as VMAN 23 is concerned, the finish line is today. I have already written a fair bit about the “Archetypes Issue” and its two cover boys, Ford Men’s Matthew Terry and Clark Cord and won’t do much more than offer up a metaphorical Gatorade in the form of this post for a race well run. The finalists were announced back in May and have since gone on to land comp cards on the Ford Men’s board amongst other things. Seeing the VMAN 23 cover story titled “The Contender” by photographer Steven Klein and stylist Nicola Formichetti is a must and you are highly encouraged to purchase the issue with Matthew and Clark on the cover (the “Wolf Man” edition is up to you). Also included in the story are the other VMAN finalists Brayden Pritchard, Cesar Chiang, Joe Graham, and Kacey Carrig. The photo coloring, styling, staging, and inspired use of Magic Marker to write the names of the boys and in some cases their home states is Klein-Formichetti through and through. Drink that Gatorade and go buy your copies of VMAN 23 to celebrate a fine finish.

Matthew Terry | Vogue Hommes Japan F/W 2011by Damien NevaLast time I checked, breaking a Vogue Hommes Japan cover before 1000 EDT on a Sunday wasn’t in the media training handbook or at least any edition followed on Madison Avenue. Then again, when it is Nicola Formichetti breaking a story all bets are as good as off. The Vogue Hommes Japan F/W 2011 cover featuring Ford Men’s Matthew Terry photographed by Branislav Jankic nevertheless surfaced early Sunday morning on the magazine’s fashion director’s Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter. Forget that almost noone was in their office let alone awake, this was news that simply could not wait. The decision is justifiable, however considering the gamma-ray buzz surrounding the 20-year-old Garden State native and VMAN 23 cover model. The young male model who walked exclusively for the Versace Menswear P/E 2012 collection show in June claims his second cover, this time wearing gold chains and bracelet by, wait for it, Mugler and headpiece by Marianna Harutunian. That’s already two magazine covers and neither have yet to even hit the newsstand. VMAN 23 will be available Thursday, 1 September and Vogue Hommes Japan F/W 2011 Saturday, 10 September. In the mean time, the media training handbook remains in tatters, which is the exact opposite of Matthew Terry’s already pristine modeling career.

VMAN has in Ford Men’s Clark Cord & Matthew Terry the very archetypes the forthcoming VMAN 23 sets out to celebrate. In a pair of recently released promotional videos by Cycy Sanders this season’s VMAN winners Clark and Matthew are presented to the world along archetypal lines as athlete and artist respectively. Clark, he enjoys a “ghetto workout” in those places public. Matthew, he fancies drumming sticks on just about every imaginable surface. Surely there is more to Clark and Matthew than these archetypes suggest, but for the sake of this promotional exercise, not to mention the VMAN 23 cover story by Steven Klein and Nicola Formichetti, such complexity is all but avoided. It must be noted, however that fashion ain’t all rocket science and cancer research. Fashion at is juggernaut best is about salable archetypes and so too is VMAN 23 with its cover boys Clark Cord and Matthew Terry
