It's not a strange thing to hear these days that "Rock is dead" or that "Rock is dying".
I couldn't disagree more, and there's lots of new bands out there making awesome music and revitalizing the genre. Some are going back to the origins with a more retro sound though still sounding fresh, while others push boundaries exploring new sounds. Both points of view with some great artists making noise.
I'll start with one of my favorites bands of this era:
Rival Sons
From their latest album released last year: Open My Eyes
I love their retro sound and that Led Zeppelin - Bluesy vibe they have.

Great idea for a thread
Royal Blood - Figure it out

^ I didn't know them. I liked the song! Specially the up-tempo section at the end.
Thanks for posting it! It's great to discover new music.

What would happen if you mix Elvis Presley with Metallica, Johnny Cash and Misfits? Then you would have something like Volbeat.
This band hit me last year and it was something it didn't happen to me since I discovered Alice in Chains. I got absolutely obsessed with this band and blown away with their mix of Metal with 50s Rock n' Roll and Rockabilly.
This one is from their second album, released in 2007:
And one from their latest album, that came out in 2013

3 man metal band from LA really reminds me of mid-late 80's metal bands.
Kyng - Electric Halo (2014)

Artist: Wall of Sleep
Album: Sun Faced Apostles (2006)
(the name is an allusion to a short story of H. P. Lovecraft: Beyond the Wall of Sleep)
killer guitar solo at the end:

Awesome bands!!

Thank you both, I didn't knew either of those two and I'll definitely be listening more of them.
Kyng reminded me too of 80's Metal, and also Black Sabbath's Dio era.
Loving that Stoner sound of Wall of Sleep.

Black Stone Cherry
Me and Mary Jane, from their latest album (2014)
Quite a heavy sound!

Another band I started to listen recently:
Shinedown
And a great video ![]()
Enemies (2012)

If you're into old-school blues rock, you should definitely listen to Gary Clark Jr.

Oh yes, he's awesome!! I wanted to post his music, but you beat me to it
Thanks!!
And thanks to all that have been contributing here!

There's also Father John Misty for those who like folky-psychedelic stuff.

^ That I didn't know, but I like it!!
I love discovering new music here ![]()
The vocals sound similar to Josh Homme at times.

celtic-folk-punk

Here's a good one for fans of old-style British punk and primitive garage riffs. Not to be confused with the American hardcore band of the same name. ![]()

Rock`n Roll never dies !

@Storm if you like Shinedown check out their track Breaking Inside featuring Lzzy Hale
Lacuna Coil - Nothing Stands in Our Way (2013)

Awesome adds everyone, thanks!!
Rock`n Roll never dies !
That's the spirit!!
@Storm if you like Shinedown check out their track Breaking Inside featuring Lzzy Hale
Listening!

This is another band I found recently, and as Rival Sons they explore a more vintage sound. They sometimes remind me a bit to Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and such.
The band is Blues Pills. Formed in Sweden by a swede singer, french guitarist and drummer and bassist from the USA.
They have a couple of EP's, singles and their first album came out last year.

Some Progressive Metal, with odd rhythms and lots of virtuosism (is that a word?
) :
Protest the Hero
This song is from their 2008 album. Their latest one came out in 2013

Some Canadian flavour. Billy Talent - Surprise Surprise (2012)
