A first look at our upcoming issue.
PHOTOGRAPHS BRUCE WEBER, CR FASHION BOOK ISSUE 7
“I am very happy to have had the chance to shoot with Bruce Weber and Cindy Crawford’s children in May for the seventh issue of CR Fashion Book coming out this September,” Carine says. “I found them to be very polite and from a very good background for their age. I am not that surprised—I have known Cindy, their mom, since my days at Elle Magazine. We never know if they will end up in fashion in the end…but this story is proof that the apple never falls very far from the tree.”
While on set with the Crawford clan in Miami, Kaia told us all about her promising modeling career.
CR: You have the perfect person to look to for modeling advice!
Kaia: “I always come to her for advice because I know that whatever she says, I’m not going to get offended. If she criticizes a photo that I’m in, I want to hear what she has to say. I trust completely what she has done with her career. Everything that she says, I really take in and think about it.”
What is the best advice that your mom has given you?
“She told me that I should have a thought behind what I’m doing. You can’t just look off somewhere and not have any thought behind it. Think about being in love or being happy or sad. Each pose should have a thought behind it. It’s almost like acting.
She’s taught me how amazing the fashion world is and how you can apply some of the lessons to your everyday life. She didn’t have her mom to tell her anything about it. Having someone to look up to and have that advice is going to be so helpful. She had a pretty good go at it, but she had to learn the hard way.”
You haven’t done much modeling up until now. Will that change?
“I want to have the time to be a kid and focus on school. But now she says that if something special comes along, I can do it. She told me about Bruce and how he loves his dogs. My dad also knows him. I love CR and I always read it so I knew what to expect. I was really excited that I got meet Carine in New York. When I found out about this I was so happy!
She is letting me do more things that she wouldn’t have before because she wanted me to have as much of a childhood as I can—and I’m glad that she did. I don’t want to jump in full time when I’m only thirteen. When special things like this come along she let’s me do it.”
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
“I really like dancing and acting. I play tennis. I like to keep myself busy because if I don’t I get so bored and I’ll just stay in my pajamas all day. I could watch four episodes of The Carrie Diaries in a row!”
