There were some surprising results in the first batch. The biggest surprise for me was Heidi Klum's victory over Petra Nemcova. Not just the result but the margin of victory, as Heidi got about 2/3 of the vote. Petra's career high rank was #3, and she was sitting at #6 entering her match against Heidi. With this result, it'll surely drop quite a bit more.

My spin:
Two-time tournament champion Bar Refaeli had little trouble with Natasha Barnard, which surprised me. I thought this would be a closer match, but it shows how strong Bar’s support is.

We had our first match involving a 2016 rookie, and Sofia Resing had a very impressive victory over fellow Brazilian Fernanda Motta.

Finally, Stacey Williams had a great showing against the fishnet-clad Cheryl Tiegs, getting about 2/3 of the vote.

My spin:
We had our first draw of this cycle, as Yasmeen Ghauri and Estelle Lefebure couldn’t be split. Estelle is the one that gets a very slight ratings boost with that result, but neither one of the models changes much, since they were evenly matched going in.

The match involving the highest ranks in this batch was between Ana Beatriz Barros and Stephanie Seymour, as they entered play ranked 25 and 26, respectively. Stephanie took home the victory, getting over 55% of the vote, and that’ll shake things up a little bit when the next rankings are released.

Another notable result was the continued good showings by Hilary Rhoda. Hilary followed up a strong showing in the 2015 SI Swimsuit Model Tournament with a convincing victory over Izabel Goulart here, and that should continue to propel her up the rankings.

I’ve been very busy and woefully dilinquent in getting you results, so my apologies for that. Let’s start with the #1 ranked model, Nina Agdal, shall we? Nina pounded poor Jessica Gomes and showed why she’s #1. 

Speaking of pounding, rookie of the year Barbara Palvin also pounded fellow rookie Ashley Graham and will get a nice ratings boost as a result.

There were lots of other high profile winners, including Hannah Davis (over Paulina Porizkova), Julie Henderson (over the nipple-baring Carolyn Murphy), Lily Aldridge, Kim Cloutier, and Samantha Hoopes.

Special shout outs to two of my favorite “sleeper picks” who were both victorious: Dominique Piek and Melissa Baker. Glad to see them both win!

My spin:
The first match of note was #3 Marisa Miller having quite a struggle with #21 Lauren Mellor. Lauren was actually ahead for a lot of the match until Marisa got some late support.

Daniela Pestova blitzed Ashley Richardson in a pretty surprising result, at least in terms of margin of victory. Meanwhile, Esti Ginzburg continued to impress and knocked off former supermodel Niki Taylor quite easily. That figures to really hurt Niki’s ranking after having quite a surge after a nice run in the 2015 tournament.

Other winners included Chanel Iman, Ashley Smith, Jenna de Rosnay, and Fernanda Tavares. The Fernanda Tavares victory surprised me a little bit, as Selita Ebanks was ranked a few spots ahead of Fernanda and had some stronger showings in recent tournaments.
