One of my "peeves" as one who grew up with the 1970s - 1980s SI issues is that the 1980s issues truly featured the industry's top SUPERmodels.  With the exception of Hillary Safire, there's no question that Paulina Porizkova, Cheryl Tiegs, Carol Alt, Kelly Emberg, and Kim Alexis were among the "Top 10" of 1983, or that Elle MacPherson, Stephanie Seymour, Estelle Lefebure, Cindy Crawford, Renee Simonsen, and Kathy Ireland were among the top dozen models of 1988.  

Even though the SI Swimsuit issue still carries substantial clout to enable it to inquire about virtually any model in the industry, it seems to have gotten away from casting only the most elite models.

Are you saying girls like Mia Kang, Danielle Herrington and Myla Dalbesio are not elite models? The horror! 

Let's get real, all you need to get cast these days is to kiss MJ's ass really hard. Nothing else
