I'm surprised this did not get a world-wide theatrical release. It's referential, but also very good in its own right.

Has anyone else seen it? Outside of the U.S., it has already been released on Netflix.

I whipped through the first book in fairly short order and, while it sounds like they've taken a few liberties with the plot, they seem to have gotten the tone and the essence of it pretty spot-on. I'm looking forward to giving it a watch.

I haven't read the book but I thought it was a smart and thoughtful bit of philosophical sci-fi.

Obviously influenced to a certain extent by Tarkovsky (primarly "Stalker" and "Solaris").

The prose in the books is really top-notch if you're into that sort of thing. It seems like some folks had a few issues with the story, which I can understand, but the guy can certainly write and I think there’s a deeper level of appreciation to be had compared to conventional sci-fi stuff.
