QuoteBorn in London. Starting out as a make-up artist. Mark first began taking photographs after moving to Paris in 1984. He had bought a small nightclub and began photographing the clientele. Having friends that included editors, his photographs soon made their way into fashion lifestyle magazines such as i-D and The Face. His minimal but colour saturated aesthetic broke through the conventions of fashion photography and he went on to become one of the 90’s most influential and defining photographers, shooting for then fledgling magazines such as Purple, Self Service and AnOther as well as collaborating on campaigns including Comme Des Garçons, Martin Margiela and Yohji Yamamoto. Mark moved to New York in 1995 and has continued to create work that inspires, delights and documents the world around him not only as photographer, but also as filmmaker and musician. He lives and works in Brooklyn.
