haha! in that case, i'm gonna upload some set's for you to check out.

lol

I listen to everything, for the most part. Except if I have to sit through and/or play Vivaldi's Season Suite one more time, I cannot be held responsible for what I do.

Metal up Your Ass
I listen to anything - except country music. Whether its pop, rap, rock, whatever.
i listen to anything that dares to be different within the realms of reasonability.
Usually experimental metal (Bungle, Fantomas, Dillinger Escape Plan, Pig Destroyer, The Locust).
Or some more simple rock/metal that has great character (Static-x, glassjaw, slayer, Tomahawk, Sleepy Time Gorilla Museum, Faith no More)
Or some quiter stuff that is also experimental and quite unique (Secret Chiefs 03, Patton/Kaada, Estradosphere).
Video-game music can be kinda cool too.
I am open for anything, except for gangsta rap and generic rock, garage rock etc.
First of all, nobody knows about every single music style on this planet. You people know nothing about Finnish popular music (Arja Koriseva? CMX? Pikku G?). I know nothing about the music styles in Senegal. So, it would be a huge mistake to say I'm listenig everything. In fact I hate most of the crap they play everywhere. Now I TRY to list the music I'm into.
MDM/EDM/IDM/UGDM (Modern/Electronic/Intelligent/UnderGround Dance Music)
There's like millions of styles and their subgenres. The styles flourished best 1988-1992 in England, but even nowadays there's excelent stuff coming out as well as complete commercial crap. The most important artists include:
S'EXPRESS
THE BEATMASTERS
AUTECHRE
APHEX TWIN
THE PRODIGY
JONNY L
LEMON JELLY
ORBITAL
GOTAN PROJECT
CLASSICAL
This is music that has survived the time. It's from time when music was written mostly for itself. They didn't have MTV to f*ck things up. Again a lot of styles to choose from. My favourite composers include:
Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934)
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)
Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707)
Nicolaus Bruhns (1665-1697)
Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643-1704)
Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764)
Franz Joseph Haydn (1732 - 1809)
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)
Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924)
Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921)
Carl Nielsen (1865-1931)
Richard Wagner (1813-1883)
Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959)
Sergey Taneyev (1856-1915)
Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672)
Johann Rosenmüller (1619-1684)
Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713)
Marin Marais (1656-1728)

Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)
Louis-Nicolas Clérambault (1676-1749)
Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594)
Leopold Sylvius Weiss (1686-1750)
Henry Purcell (1659-1695)
Maurice Ravel (1875-1937)
Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe (d. 1691-1701)
Johann Adolf Hasse (1699-1783)
Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736)
Enrique Granados (1867-1916)
Johann Baptist Vanhal (1739-1813)
POP/ROCK/etc.
This is an area I have began to listen more recently. It's not all commercial crap, some artists make increadible good music which is easy to listen and makes you feel good. Favourites:
LOWGOLD
KASHMIR
PAT METHENY
STANDFAST
BRISKEBY
SIGUR ROS
RADIOHEAD
KROYT
LOGH
BEL CANTO
NEW AGE/WORLD MUSIC
What a wonderful music it is! It's anything but commercial. It's so relaxing, calming and even healing. It's music everyone likes but few knows it. You all like new age, you just don't know it because MTV never played it for you. Some examples of artists:
ANDREAS VOLLENWEIDER
HAROLD BUDD
WAYNE GRATZ
SHEILA CHANDRA
HERMETO PASCOAL
STEVE ROACH
PATRICK O'HEARN
DAVID HELPLING
STEVEN HALPERN
POST WAR/AVANTGARD/MINIMALISM/MOVIE MUSIC
This music will become "classical" with time. Very interesting stuff.

JOHN ADAMS
TERRY RILEY
JOHN WILLIAMS
ARVO PÄRT
HANS ZIMMER
JAZZ
Not into jazz much, but I like some of it.
KEITH JARRETT
BRAD MEHLDAU
CLIFFORD BROWN+MAX ROACH
nobody claimed to know about "every single musical-style on the planet", dont take 'i listen to everything' so literally, you're trying to sound superior.

like i said im open to all types of music...i listen world music a lot....i have a very open family and we listen to everything even if we dont understand what they are saying in the songs....
AHHH i keep resetting my internet memory so i always post as guest
i think lyrics are meaningless in music. If you need lyrics to enjoy music, you dont actually like the music, you're just relating the words to an emotion you're feeling or a situation you're going through, might as well read some poetry.
I think it's the music itself that you identify more closely with and its the music that sets a theme and a mood.
Having said that, voice can be just important as music, afterall, bjorks new album is 90% vocal and i love it, it's probably stronger.
I guess this is all loosely related to why i hate pop punk, hip hop and commercial rock, all they do is sell emotions and people think WOW, I really relate to what they're about, and it's all bullshit.... well thats just what i think.
I agree mostly, but I think lyrics aren't completely meaningless. The fact is most people don't understand much about music when it comes to rhythm, chords, contrapunct etc. People understand semantic messages much better, hence they try to sell us music dominated by lyrics.
Medulla is perhaps Björk's best album so far...
P.S. I was not trying to sound superior, I am superior! Sorry about that. ![]()
