José Antonio Reyes developed his football career between two Clubs, Sevilla FC and Arsenal FC, as well as the Spanish national team, where he quickly rose through the ranks after winning the Under-19 European Championship with Fernando Torres.

Reyes joined Sevilla’s First Team in 2001 after making his First Division debut at the age of 16. Under the guidance of coach Joaquín Caparrós at the Andalusian Club, Reyes was changed from forward to left midfielder, and he quickly made a name for himself in Spanish football. The First Team of the Spanish national team came knocking on his door in the summer of 2003, the same year he was signed by the ‘Gunners’. It didn’t take long for Reyes to convince Arséne Wenger of his talent, and he soon earned a spot in the starting eleven of the Arsenal side that went on to win the Premiership. Thanks to his incisive character along the left wing coupled with his overwhelming technique, Reyes was signed by Real Madrid in 2006

Reyes pleads for patience from Real fans

MADRID, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Real Madrid's Jose Antonio Reyes has pleaded for patience from the club's fans ahead of Tuesday's Champions League showdown against Bayern Munich.

Reyes and his team mates have been jeered by the Bernabeu faithful after disappointing performances in their last two home matches in the league, but the Spain winger is hoping the crowd will get behind them with the resumption of European competition.

"The fans have to help us and we have to win," Reyes told a news conference on Monday. "We hope that the Champions League will change the team, that we play well and that the crowd won't jeer us."

Reyes, who is on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal, said the fans's behaviour had had a negative effect on the players.

"It affects the team when the fans whistle at a team mate. They have the right to jeer, applaud or do what they want, but we hope that tomorrow they will support the team even when things aren't going well.

"This is a different competition and we have no choice but to win this match."

Reyes hoped the game would prove to be a turning point in what has been a disappointing season, but said the team were taking nothing for granted even though the German giants were failing to live up to expectation in the Bundesliga.

"We can't rely on the fact that Bayern are in poor form at the moment because we aren't playing well either," said the Spain international.

"We aren't scoring as many goals as we should at the moment, but we are hoping that things will change tomorrow and the ball will go in in what is our most important game."

Mali midfielder Mahamadou Diarra has been ruled out of the Bayern match after receiving stitches to his ankle in the recent win at Real Sociedad and defender Sergio Ramos is a doubt because of a bruised foot.

Roberto Carlos is expected to return to the starting line-up after a month out with a calf injury.
