Ancelotti: Inzaghi Should Have Gone, Not Cassano
Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti has praised Italy boss Roberto Donadoni but he says that he made the wrong decision in calling up Antonio Cassano for Euro 2008 ahead of Pippo Inzaghi.
The one major surprise when Donadoni named his squad for Euro 2008 was the inclusion of the wonderfully talented, yet volatile, Antonio Cassano.
Many also believe that Pippo Inzaghi merited a spot in the final 23, following ablistering end to the season when he scored 10 goals in his last seven Serie A matches.
"There is only one choice made by the coach that I do not agree with,” Donadoni explained in the Corriere dello Sport. “That is the place of Cassano instead of Inzaghi.
"Pippo’s experience would have been useful for the team, especially when used in the last 20-30 minutes of matches. However, the responsibility for these decisions lies with the coach, who has done an excellent job."
Ancelotti then went on to name his favourites for the championships in Austria and Switzerland, and he believes the Azzurri are in with a great chance of winning their first Euros since 1968.
"Italy, Germany, France and Spain, the winner of the Euros will emerge from this quartet," Carletto stated.
"The national team of Donadoni has the opportunity to win a trophy that has escaped us for 40 years, and they have a chance thanks to a solid defence, a technical and robust midfield, and a powerful attack.”

Milan veteran Pippo Inzaghi has set his targets for next season and is already looking forward to challenging Inter’s supremacy.
Inzaghi’s renaissance at the end of last season nearly inspired the Rossoneri to grab fourth place, but the world champions will have to settle for UEFA Cup football next term.
“The title will be our objective, just like the UEFA Cup, which Milan are lacking and must be honoured,” Inzaghi told Mediaset.
“This group has won two Champions Leagues and one Scudetto – it would be good to even the totals up.
“We will be focused on the two targets. Inter are the strongest side, but we will have to see. The derby will be as good as ever.
“Am I scared of the Jose Mourinho effect? I can’t judge Mourinho because I don’t know him,” Super Pippo continued.
“But we are very happy with Carlo Ancelotti, who is a great Coach and a great person.”
Inzaghi is the all-time top scorer in European competitions with 63 goals to his name after overtaking Gerd Muller’s record last season.
“The UEFA Cup also counts for records and now that I have overtaken Muller I intend to defend the record. It would be a shame not to after 30 years of fighting to reach it.
“My next personal goal is to get to 300 professional goals – I’m just 10 short. It would be a prestigious milestone.”
