I believe it was her personal decision, she was shooting until days before the VSFS, so I don't think VS was planning to stop working with her.
But that's what I think, I could be wrong.

I find it hard to believe. She worked almost exclusively for VS from 2014-15. And then just chose to leave?

She posted to instagram around that time with either a comment or hashtag that said "unemployed," which would seem to indicate that she was dropped by VS.

I wouldn't use that hashtag as a reference, she's used to use/uses the #unemployed(addtheday) tag when she has a day off from work.
What I think honestly, even been a huge fan of Monika, I believe that she was dropped by VS. I believe the reasons was one of the following, even if how ridiculous they might sound (They are quite ridiculous though, they need a spoiler for mediocrity)-
1: She was not bubbly enough for VS. (Same for Katya)
2: Her Instagram followers did not swell up like the rest of the angels.
3: Being a 'contract model' for a really long period of time, she was not 'good' enough to be a spokesperson for VS.
This entire post is strictly my observation. I know how insensitive and stupid this sounds, but this is what I've gathered from these few months.

Thats right. I still believe something went down between her and VS. But we still havent gotten to know it yet.
