i see the men from both teams huddling up together and pushing each other, and the guy who's standing piQs up the ball from under them..
i don't understand...

I don't know which game/team you were watching so I can't comment on the Evan name
.
But the players huddling together and the ball being put under them is called a scrum, the guy putting the ball under them is the scrum-half like Yachvili. The scrum can push forward or be pushed back depending on their strength and how it holds up.
