Cipriani upset by Rebel criticism
Danny Cipriani has spoken of his frustration regarding reports that he is not doing enough to fit in at new outfit Melbourne Rebels.
The former Wasp, who only arrived in Australia a couple of months ago ahead of the Super Rugby season, revealed that he was perplexed at the rumours. "People have been saying a lot of things about me, that I have been difficult and angry," he said, speaking to The Sun.
"But that just isn't the case. "It frustrates me only to the point where my mum hears about it, then she gets upset.
"I tell her that everything is just fine and it's sorted. It comes with the territory, I know that. "But I wish someone would tell me what it is I am doing wrong.
"I have no problem with constructive criticism."
Reports on New Year's Eve suggested that Cipriani had upset Rebels' Assistant Coach Mark Bakewell, who said that the high-profile player had done a 'pretty good impersonation of the original Mr Angry since he arrived here'. And with Cipriani admitting to homesickness at this early stage in the move, it seems all is not well. "The first couple of weeks, I was loving every minute," said the 2008 England international.
"It was a totally new experience and then I guess the reality set in of being so far away from home, being away from friends and family, not being able to speak to them. "It gets lonely sometimes.
"It was difficult. But I must say everyone at the Rebels has made the transition as smooth as possible. I am still happy with the decision I made. I'm feeling great and ready to go.
"I try not to think too much about not pulling on that (England) shirt again because it upsets me. The plan is to eventually return home. But, first, I want to succeed here."
