Fernando Morientes to leave Marseille
The experienced Spanish striker Fernando Morientes is to leave Ligue 1 club Marseille after the last year of his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
The former Real Madrid, Valencia, Monaco and Liverpool forward had struggled to command a regular place at Marseille and last season played 12 times, scoring just one goal.
A three-times Champions League winner while in Madrid, the 34-year-old also scored 27 goals in 47 appearances for Spain.
Morientes could be heading for Mexico as his agent has claimed interest has been shown in him by Club América.

Fernando Morientes, ex delantero de España, vino a México para comentar el cotejo entre el Tri y la Furia Roja, y antes de volar de regreso hacia Madrid explicó que nuestro futbol tiene mucho futuro.
"México tiene una selección joven y mucho porvenir. Además me gustó mucho el 'Chicharito', tiene mucho futuro. Es un jugador rápido y en el Manchester crecerá muchísimo".
Y agregó: "México debe tener paciencia porque tiene mucha calidad individual, creo que deberían unirse más como grupo dentro y fuera de la cancha. Que vean a España, es una gran familia. España sabe a qué juega, es la que mejor lo hace en el mundo, por eso ganó el Mundial. Y México ha tenido mala suerte. A mí me pasó, nos quedamos en cuartos de final en los Mundiales y en la Euro. A México le falta suerte".
También comentó que "México no está lejos de ser potencia. Trabaja bien en fuerzas básicas porque hay muchos jóvenes, confían en ellos".
