What types of files are you two trying to get screen shots from? MPEG, AVI Quicktime, Real Media.

umm... how do you download the irfanview?

i downloaded it but it won't work for me

i did not understand how to download it ... but it seems easy to work from what mike said (sorry i hope that is your name :S)

umm. i know the downloading part was confusing...? it didn't work for me though... so no use of me downloading it again... maybe i'll try that other one...

Irfanview

Once the program is installed, all you have to do is right click the file you would like to open, select open with. You should see irfanview there.

It should open and start automatically, you can stop it and scroll to the spot in the video you want to capture, right click the view screen, and click copy.

Now the picture is copied to your clipboard, double click your irfanview icon, to open an empty irfanview window, click edit--->paste, and your screen should appear.

Some videos won't open with Irfanview unfortunately, and it has a habit of jumping around, and sometimes it's difficult to get the exact screen you want, but it's better than nothing.

The Avi Split only works for Avi videos, which is just about every video ever posted here, as everything is encoded with DivX now, so that programs will work with Avi files, but it's a trial, so it will expire.

I'm gonna go try and find a program that does just screen captures, so that you guys can do it without all the hassle.

Wish me luck, if it was easy to find everyone would be using it already.

Edit: Cool, you got it to work. Gonna try and find a better program for everyone anyways.

As for Avi split, you just import the video you want caps of and press the capture screen button. It will pop up with a window, asking you where you want to save it. You can go frame by frame with Avi split which is nice, downside is it only works with Avi.

sorry i don't use any of these things for screen caps. i use adobe imageready

the irfanview works.. but it isnt that easy to work.. once i made one screen cap then i have restart the video

is that ftv vid an avi file.. i really love the Avi split program it is easy but hardly any vids will open using this program

Ok,

I couldn't find anything free, to make your capturing any easier, except BS player, which now that I go through it, it's actually pretty easy to get caps using that player.

So you can download BS Player Here, scroll down to get the free version.

It plays just about every kind of video, meaning you should be able to get caps from every kind of video.

Once installed, go to preferences, the button looks like a little hammer.

A screen which looks like the one below, should open.

Where it says, "Directory for Captured Images" specify where you would like your captured images to be saved to. Like your Desktop, or a folder or where ever.

Next on the menu at the left choose "Key Definitions" a window that looks like the one below should appear.

On this screen, choose "Capture Frame-Original Image Size", your screen should look like this.

Notice the letter I circled, whatever this letter is on your computer, will be the letter you press to take the screen capture. You can change it to any letter you

want.

Now close your preferences, and open your video by clicking the button that looks like a triangle with a line under it.

Your video will open, now browse to the area you would like to capture. Once near the correct area, you can go frame-by-frame, by pressing either your left or right

arrows on your keyboard.

Once the correct frame is selected, make sure your mouse is over a part of the video screen, and press P or whichever key you assigned to do the capture, in the

step above.

Wherever you specified to put the captured frames is where your pictures will end up. Mine go to my desktop.

Also, where you specified for the captured frames to go in your preferences, you can also change what type of file the frame is captured in, i.e; bmp, jpeg, etc.
