Fandango Poll of 10 Most Anticipated of 2025 is Depressing
It doesn’t matter one bit to general audiences that next year we’re getting new films from Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Lynne Ramsay, Yorgos Lanthimos, Terrence Malick, Josh Safdie, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and more.
Fandango, the U.S.'s leading online movie ticketing service, has surveyed more than 9,000 ticket-buyers to find out which movies they are most excited to see next year, and the list is absolutely depressing.
Not a single original film on the list. All of these are either remakes, reboots, spin-offs, or sequels. It’d be best to stick with our recently published 107 Most Anticipated Films.
Check back a year later, and many of these will turn up on a list of the most disappointing films of the year. Hey, at least this is good news for Tom Cruise who desperately needs ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ to be a hit next year.
Also, is it at all concerning that James Gunn’s $300M “Superman,” and the kickstart to his much-buzzed DCU, is only #9 on the list? I mean, “The Accountant 2” is ahead of Supes! The film probably needs a trailer to build up some kind of momentum, but maybe audiences just don’t care for another Superman.
I’m still scratching my head at “Captain America: Brave New World” being #1 — did participants know that Chris Evans is no longer part of the franchise? Regardless, Superhero movies make up nearly a third of the list — “Thunderbolts” is the only notable absentee — and this represents the sad state of affairs currently inflicting general moviegoing.
That's really "great", REAL cinema is dying and people are "loving it and buying it"...
Remakes, reboots, sequels, all very "original" content that are NOT needed but people still want to see this shit, than of course Studios will do it cause they know they make money with ALL this trash. And with that, original content struggle to have not only a bugdet but especially an audience that is truly interested in something new, sad days for cinema.
The kind of movie Leo does, that's what we are talking here too, is basically and mostly only appreaciated nowadays by award shows, that's the truth.

Gosh, honestly...Hollywood became a joke these days. Tom Cruise will become an octagenarian trying to save the world from some freak in this pointless franchise and seriously...I'done with superhero movies!

Paul Thomas Anderson's ‘One Battle After Another'?
Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film was originally called “The Battle of Baktan Cross.” It looks like either that was a placeholder, or they’ve decided to rename it.
A few weeks ago, legendary AD Adam Somner passed away. He was an unsung hero in some of the most iconic movie sets, known for working with Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Ridley Scott, and PTA.
Director Mark Romanek (“One Hour Photo”), who attended Somner’s funeral, has posted the ceremony’s program, which cited the title of every film Somner’s worked on in his illustrious career, including his final one, directed by PTA, now going by the name of “One Battle After Another.” So, I guess, no more ‘Baktan Cross.’
Throughout the shoot of PTA’s film, we’d seen the town of Baktan Cross featured throughout leaked photos and videos, seen on building signage and police cars. As far as the etymology of the word “Baktan,” it relates to the cycles of the Mayan calendar. Earlier in the year, the film was shooting under the working title “BC Project.”
In the past, "Phantom Thread” was a working title which PTA decided to keep, whereas “Soggy Bottom” was a working title that got replaced by “Licorice Pizza”. So, it’s not surprising to see “Baktan Cross” having been used as a placeholder.
Warner Bros. greenlit PTA’s latest for a budget that was originally reported to be in the $100-$125M range. Some, including Jeff Sneider, believe it to be along the lines of $175M. The film is said to be PTA’s most “mainstream” to date, with rumors pointing towards a loosely inspired riff on Thomas Pynchon’s “Vineland.” What we’ve noticed so far, from on-set leaks, is that the film is heavy on action, with lots of car chase scenes.
Leonardo DiCaprio stars in PTA’s latest alongside Regina Hall, Chase Infiniti, and Sean Penn, plus Benicio del Toro, Wood Harris, Teyana Taylor, and Alana Haim. The film is, for the time being, scheduled to hit theaters on August 8, 2025.
