USA Today has unveiled a first look at Kate Winslet in the villainous role of Jeanine Matthews in Divergent.
Kate Winslet: Prepare For Another Emotional Acceptance Speech, Labor Day Movie Tipped For Oscar
Kate Winslet appears in the first still from the movie Labor Day released by mistake by the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Of course, the real Labor Day is just a few weeks away, and the release of this shot prematurely is unfortunate.
The movie is directed by Jason Reitman and is based on the novel by Joyce Maynard. It stars Kate Winslet and Gattlin Griffith as a mother and son who take in an escaped convict (Josh Brolin) for a weekend.
Labor Day is beginning to sound like a serious contender for the awards circuit. Paramount Pictures seems to feel the same because they have chosen the release date to be right in the heart of awards season. Reitman’s sense of humor is a signature element of his style in films like Thank You For Smoking, Juno, Up in the Air, and Young Adult, However, Labor Day is a more serious work. He told Entertainment Weekly, “There’s no cynicism in this movie. There’s no irony in this movie, This one is dramatic, romantic, and has moments of being a thriller — all new things for me. It felt like making my first movie again.”
So, could it be that we will see Kate Winslet making yet another emotional award acceptance speech? We shall see.
