I have never been a fan of the whole rating system b/c it seems pointless to me. I want to get rid of it 
yep... the whole 'star' thing is about as meaningful to me as the 'little blue cubes' below our avatars

I remember bringing up disabling the rating system before and I think most people wanted to keep it.

the same thing happened to me. it fluctuates too often.
Several weeks back I had 5 stars, but now I only have 3. I wonder who has given me negative feedback (and why)...
I personally think the concept of rating each other is unnecessary & pointless, and it further decreases the moral around here. It seems like the majority of the members around here like the idea (some to the point where it is obsessive and taken way too seriously 
) so we have it available.
@parisien: people do the darnest things and sometimes for no reason or out of impulse. As long as you are following the rules and doing the right thing (which from my observation you do 
), I wouldn't ponder too much on why your rating decreased
