but Whitney didn't just have talent. she was no slouch when it came to being gorgeous and sexy and charismatic, as well! i can't think of many other performers who have 1. Gorgeous, model-esque beauty, 2. magnificent talent, 3. unparalleled international success, 4. cultural significance.

Beyonce has #2 & #3, but she hasn't really been culturally influential, and though she's insanely beautiful, she isn't "model-esque".

i agree with you, though, Mdme Kiki, it's sad how having a knack at exploiting yourself as a sexually commercialized commodity has replaced ACTUAL TALENT as the pre-requisite of today's popstars.

Bad news is, I don't particularly forsee the problem you're talking about getting any better .

Good news is, there are some others like Alecia Keys (writes, plays and sings), Norah Jones (where art thou ? , writes plays and sings). Though they are more like exceptions than the sign of a trend.

It may sound strange, but my favorite singer is Shakira . Not just the looks and hips, but I think she's so moving, dramatic and unique :hell yea!: , she can make any song her own and to me she doesn't have any bad songs, I can listen to her all day .

about the music, i voted Rihanna because i like many of her songs.. she has not the best voice but i know all of her songs and they are in my mind because they are easy and quite nice..

For beauty - Cassie - she's gorgeous and what a splendid mix of genes (nice boobs too )

I voted for Hilary Duff in most beautiful (I love her eyes) Grew up watching her show on Disney, so kind of grew attached.

As in Music, I voted for Taylor Swift. Been listening to her music a lot lately, not the biggest fan of Country music-Even though I live in KY lol. But she definitely has some catchy tunes!
