Kaka plots Bayern downfall

Kaka is confident that Milan will beat Bayern Munich to book a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The Rossoneri will play the second leg of the tie on Wednesday and are likely to need a win after a 2-2 draw at the San Siro last week, but the Brazilian star is not overly concerned.

“I don’t think there is any need for desperation,” he told UEFA.com. “As much as Bayern deserve respect, not only because of their history but also because of the quality players they have, Milan can win.

“I have a feeling this game will be one of those historic European nights.”

Milan were unable to win the first leg despite taking the lead twice and they now find themselves requiring a positive result away from home.

“We had victory in our hands against Bayern and the fact we let it slip through our fingers with the last kick of the game meant we didn’t leave the San Siro happy,” explained Kaka.

“We are convinced we can outplay them in front of their supporters. It’s important for us to keep our heads up.”

The 24-year-old found the back of the net against the German outfit last week to secure his place at the top of the Champions League scorers’ chart with seven goals from nine matches.

“Goals are scored for the team and I want to score more to take us further and further,” concluded Kaka.

The winner of the tie will go through to face either Roma or Manchester United in the semi-finals on April 24/25 and May 1/2.

Messina 1:3 AC Milan - match report

Scorers: Kaka 14 (Mi), Favalli 30 (Mi), Ronaldo 86 (Mi), Masiello 92 (Me)

Milan sunk Messina in the opening half-hour to continue their charge on a top four finish.

The Rossoneri were fresh from their Champions League quarter-final victory in Munich and travelled to Sicily looking for three more precious points in their bid to qualify for the tournament next season. With that in mind, several figures were rested. Messina boss Bruno Giordano's return has not been popular with the fans, so he was given a less than warm welcome in his first home game since replacing Alberto Cavasin. Vincent Candela was suspended.

Nelson Dida turned a Masiello strike out for a corner, but it was Milan who opened the scoring. Kaka unleashed a powerful right-foot effort that glanced over Kakha Kaladze's head to slot into the bottom far corner of the net. The Georgian may have made contact, but the goal was awarded to Kaka.

Soon after Ronaldo set up another Kaka effort that this time was kept out by Gabriele Paoletti.

Kaka also combined with Alberto Gilardino, Paoletti parrying his finish at the near post.

Milan were tearing the Messina defence apart and Yoann Gourcuff's disguised pass sent Giuseppe Favalli clear to fire low at the near post.

There was only one team in it. Marcos Cafu's shot was parried by Paoletti and the rebound fell to Gourcuff, bravely closed down by Lavecchia in front of an open goal.

Gilardino incredibly side-footed straight at Paoletti from the penalty spot from Ronaldo's counter, as it was one-on-one.

De Vezze and a Christian Rigano' header failed to really trouble Dida in the second half, though he did tip an Edgar Alvarez rocket over the bar.

Milan were unlucky not to make it three, as Kaka's shot was saved and Gilardino's follow-up cleared off the line.

There were worrying scenes on 62 minutes, as Marco Zanchi clashed heads with his goalkeeper and lost consciousness. It was particularly a concern, as Zanchi was out for a year with a brain injury and has a plaque in his head, but the defender was able to continue.

Ronaldo had a solo effort - complete with stepovers - pushed away by former Udinese goalkeeper Paoletti, and Kaka stung the shot-stopper's palms.

Ronaldo got his fifth goal of the Serie A season in the final minutes with an absolute missile from distance that rocketed under the bar.

Masiello got a consolation goal for Messina with the last kick of the game, as he exchanged passes with Sergio Floccari to toe-poke past Dida.

Messina: Paoletti; Lavecchia, Zanchi, Iuliano, Giallombardo; Alvarez, Pestrin (Cordova 72), D'Aversa (Floccari 56), De Vezze, Masiello; Riganò

Milan: Dida; Cafu, Bonera, Kaladze, Favalli (Jankulovski 89); Gattuso, Pirlo (Ambrosini 87), Gourcuff; Kakà; Gilardino (Serginho 78), Ronaldo
