Beckham 'committed' to Real

David Beckham will continue to give his 'full commitment and professionalism' to Real Madrid despite Fabio Capello's declaration that he will no longer be considered for selection.

The former England captain will move to America at the end of the season after signing a five-year deal with LA Galaxy.

He has played very little for Real since Capello took charge at the Bernabeu and the Italian believes there would be no sense in picking him now.

Capello said Beckham would continue to train with Real but would not play, as he could no longer 'be counted on'.

But Simon Oliveira, Beckham's representative, has insisted that his client will give everything for the club until he leaves.

"As far as David is aware he has a contract for the remainder of the season and remains dedicated to the club and its supporters," said Oliveira.

"David is surprised at the quotes from Fabio Capello and nobody from the club has informed him of their intentions.

"He will continue to give his full commitment and professionalism to the club."

BECKHAM STUNNED BY CAPELLO COMMENTS

David Beckham is prepared to be paid off by Real Madrid immediately or join Los Angeles Galaxy in April if Fabio Capello stands by his refusal to pick the former England captain again.

Beckham has been left stunned by Capello's remarks, having not even been told himself by the Real coach of his decision, but has no intention to quit the club or to go on loan to another side.

However, it is understood that if Real decide they want to pay off the remaining six months of Beckham's contract, or if Galaxy make an approach to the Spanish giants to take the 31-year-old at the start of the MLS season in April, he would be prepared to leave.

Beckham on Thursday turned down Real's new two-year contract offer in favour of a £128million move to the USA starting in August, and although his camp believe Capello is reacting childishly, they insist he will remain committed to the club.

Simon Oliver, Beckham's representative, said: "As far as David is aware he has a contract for the remainder of the season and remains dedicated to the club and its supporters.

"David is surprised at the quotes from Fabio Capello and nobody from the club has informed him of their intentions.

"He will continue to give his full commitment and professionalism to the club."

Beckham's Real Madrid career was brought to a premature end today when Capello revealed he would not pick the midfielder again and left him out of an 18-man squad for tomorrow's match against Real Zaragoza. He will be permitted to train with the squad, however.

Capello said: "The decision of the player is to go to Los Angeles. He is a great professional, but he has such an important contract with another club, and therefore he will train with us but he is not going to play."

Asked whether Beckham might leave the Bernabeu before the end of his contract, Capello said: "You will have to ask Beckham that question.

"He must decide what to do until the end of the season."

Before this season, Beckham had been a first-choice player for much of his Real career since joining from Manchester United in 2003.

But he has found himself out of favour under new coach Capello during the current campaign, making only five league starts.

Beckham has voiced his frustration at his lack of matches, and it is believed the midfielder was waiting to see how that situation would develop before deciding whether to renew his contract - which he ultimately decided against.

Despite Beckham's disappointments, Capello insists Beckham has always remained professional.

"I have never had the smallest problem with Beckham," he said.

"I believe one cannot have the same desire when you have another team.

"But I repeat, he is a great professional. Now he needs to maintain a good physical condition, but we cannot count on him."

MLS spokesman Stephen Rodriguez believes it will be in the interests of all involved for the midfielder to move to America at the earliest possible opportunity.

He told PA Sport: "I'm sure Alexi (Lalas, general manager) or (head coach) Frank Yallop, when they hear about this, I'm sure they will try to bring him over as quickly as possible.

"It would be in (club owners) AEG and LA Galaxy's best interests to buy out the rest of his contract.

"If it were just a case of buying out his contract then absolutely, they would do it."

The announcement by Capello suggests Beckham's final appearance for the club came in last weekend's defeat at Deportivo La Coruna.

Beckham was sent on as a 13th-minute replacement for the injured Guti, but he was unable to prevent Real from slipping to a 2-0 defeat.
