Real Madrid's Beckham: I knew I'd convince Capello

Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham has revealed he was always confident of winning his place back after being axed by coach Fabio Capello over the New Year.

Becks told The Sun: "From the moment I heard I was never going to play for Real Madrid again I thought 'Right, OK, I will prove I can play for them again'. That was my ambition.

"I never wanted to be at Real for the next four months and not play in the white shirt again. I came back and scored against Sociedad but I wore the black and I still wanted to wear the white shirt again and play at the Bernabeu again.

"Capello never actually told me I wouldn't play for Real Madrid again. He said it to the Press.

"I was sat watching the telly when a mate rang me, the same one who told me Manchester United had sold me four years ago. He told me Capello had said I would never play for Real Madrid again.

"But I never asked the coach about what he said. I decided I'd still work hard in training and win my place back.

"That's the way I've always been, just like when I had tough times at Man United.

"I could be having a quiet life now and winding down to going to LA if I hadn't been determined to get back in the Real Madrid side.

"Someone rang up one of the phone-ins and said I could have just sat there, been paid and not played for the rest of the season but that's not me. I'm a fighter."

Real Madrid were very unlucky against Getafe. Four of their players were injured during the match. Reyes has an injury on the lateral internal ligament of his left leg. Beckham has the same injury on his right leg. Higuaín and Van Nistelrooy have bruised their left and right quadriceps, respectively. They will all be examined tomorrow at Veldebebas to determine the seriousness of their injuries.
